Hi all

Whilst going through her bank statements my sister noticed something on her old joint account - 2 years ago a payment made to an aggregates supplier by her then partner was charged to the account twice - £331.17 twice in a day. They were fairly comfortable moneywise at the time (she isnt now!) and didnt really look at their statements.

The trouble is she has no receipt any more, and no apparent way of proving the same payment was processed twice, which she is 100% sure of.

She could really do with the money back as she's just had to have 2 months off work unpaid after an operation, can anyone think of any way she could try and recover the money? Yes, it may have been their own fault for not checking at the time but it's a bit late for that now!

Thank you in advance for any help.

Rob

I'm sorry to say that their is probably not a lot you can do.

It is down to the account holder to check their accounts regularly and highlight problems quickly.

As this was 2 years ago, and have no receipts, you may have a problem.

Others may know differently.

As it was a debit card transaction, you really don't have much of a case - due to the time delay in discovering it. It MIGHT be worthwhile to at least mentioned to your bank Customer Services saying it has only just been noticed, if they still hold the transaction data on the debit, the timing of it may be relevant. Was the card holder there, or a 'card not present' transaction? Of course, the next port of call is the firm that took the money, and it might be worthwhile pursuing them also.
