The legal seagulls site has been classed as commercial and is therefore in breach of the site rules to post a link. Others who did post a link have had their posts edited as *commercial link removed*

It has been copied with a clear reference. Anyone with a search engine can type consumeractiongroup and end up here.

Errr, ok. Not sure what you're getting at here to be honest. I was just asked to justify my earlier comment that there is copied material on the Legal seagulls website, which I think I have done. If you're refering to the fact that I linked to Legal seagulls in an effort to demonstrate my point, then I'm more than happy to remove it if it breaches any rules.

Has this not been done to death already?

It was threads like this getting out of hand that forced the closure of the bear garden in the first place.

I did not know that the 'seagulls' site did free stuff !!!

This is what "sparked" it.

As it was just carrying on what Dave said on the 14th June 2007 post 37, re: Chatroom will it or won't it. in the Question & Suggestions forum.

Which was in response to Robert saying that seagulls got free fags, make-up and toiletries for life. It was a play on words by lexandergundogs - seagulls/Legal seagulls - geddit?

In any event, as far as I know Legal seagulls do not offer free fags, make-up and toiletries for life, so not sure what the issue is. If they do offer this, then lexandergundogs was merely stating that they were not aware they did this.

A lady awoke one morning and discovered her beagle wasn't moving. She called her vet, who asked her to bring the dog in. After a brief examination, the vet pronounced the dog dead.

"Are you sure?" the distraught woman asked. "He was a great family pet. Isn't there anything else you can do?"

The vet paused for a moment and said, "There is one more thing we can do." He left the room for a moment and came back carrying a large cage with a cat in it. The vet opened the cage door, and the cat walked over to the beagle. The cat sniffed the beagle from head to toe and walked back to the cage.

"Well, that confirms it," the vet announced. "Your dog is dead."

Satisfied that the vet had done everything he possibly could, the woman sighed, "How much do I owe you?"

"That will be £330," the vet replied.

"I don't believe it!" screamed the woman. "What did you do that cost £330?"

"Well," the vet replied, "it's £30 for the office visit and £300 for the cat scan."

I don't really understand your point?

There were people on here trying to poach members to profit making sites, LB being one of them.

Your posts seem to be almost citing a flame war.

I think what Peed 'orf was annoyed about was that lex had stated the seagulls site nothing was free, after he posted in their hsbc forum asking for help with a claim over 6 years, then comes to cag slagging the site, if you read all the posts, Barracad states peed orf was the first to bring it up on cag, when clearly this was not true, as the ref to your post shows. Not citing trouble or war, LB may have links to a commercial side, but the insinuations from some people give the impression that there is nothing free on the LB site, when this is clearly not true.

What Lex said was a play on words and in keeping with the on-running joke in this thread - it was not someone 'slagging' off another site.

I think the LB crew don't like the fact that links to their (and any other commercial) site are not allowed on here.

My post - which was entirely factual - quite a factor in a libel (not liable!) case, was in a different forum in a different thread and was a reference to ALL the people that come here and try to poach people over to their respective commercial sites. We've always had a problem with it, and it's not just LB who were doing it, despite them attempting to clog up our PM database it would seem.

Dave I understood the play on words with lex. I do need a definition of commercial site. Is it one that offers goods and services for a cost? I ask the question because I cannot find an online definition of it so i need to know what is classed as one because that is the test of whether any link to a site can be placed on here. I am a banana which i am open about and would never put a link on here. i am sure no one can be "poached" from the site because everyone on all sites can help across the charging spectrum. Scrambled, maybe, beaten, possibly, but always sunny side up. :)

Anyway, no one laugh at the cobbett slayer's post, for a quick refrain, he said he was a hunt saboteur, and that he got up early and shot the fox. I was amused, or rather I could not believe it when i saw the comment:D

I came I saw I helped. I could do no more.

This is my first post on CAG and I have to say I am somewhat bemused by the talk of commercialism being bandied about.

I shall use the euphamism LB so as not to be accused of providing a link to any other site, they have a free acces forum with people willing and dare I say keen to help anyone through the process of reclaimin their bank charges, I'm sure this sounds familiar. They have a chatroom with a similar purpose, as well as somewhere to let off steam. They have also chosen to give those that want it the opportunity to use professional services to assist with their claims.

If thats commercial how does it differ from this:-

CAG Products - We think that these will help you to make your claim or Reclaim your Right

These sales also help us to keep helping YOU and keeps this site free of third party adverts!

lp_tiny.jpgpp_tiny.jpgwp_tiny.jpgmt_tiny.jpgSmall Claims KitSmall Claims Court GuideLast Will & Testament KitFight a Motoring Ticket

Maybe I'm being nieve but seems that all sites are looking at commercial ways to allow themselves to provide the best possible free help.

And how we got from a whymsical discussion on bloodsports to here I have no idea.

Well what more can be said on this matter....we are all here for one thing to claim our bank charges back, does it matter if its cag, pc, legal-seagulls, or using one many of the other sites that are now widely available.

I am very suprised that cag have allowed this thread to run as long as it has, any threads about cag on the recent events re the bear garden and chat was very quickly closed and locked.

I think any post slagging off another site should be edited or at best removed as this looks very bad on cag for allowing post such as these to be allowed to stay.

There is a world of difference. You cannot say that just because an organisation sells things it must be a commercial organisation. It depends on whether or not they intend to make a profit from it. Greenpeace have an extensive online shop where you can buy everything from mugs to pyjamas. The difference between them and Amazon is that any money they make will go towards saving whales (or possibly seagulls, or for that matter Wales), wheras any money Amazon makes will go to their shareholders.

I suppose the only point I've been trying to make is that CAG and PC only charge for stuff out of necessity (and I believe both resisted it for some time), wheras Legal seagulls are charging for stuff from day one, despite having no particular reason to do so. I imagine that hosting a forum with a few dozen members costs no more than about a fiver a month, which rather begs the question: if not for profit, why sell stuff at all? Why not just post links to few reputable law firms - or better still, to the Law Society directory of firms?

Any threads that degenrated into a mindless argument were locked - not threads about CAG.

I agree, any threads where 'slagging off' goes on will be edited - I have seen none.

I agree with MR STRONG. I for one, do not want to lose the bear garden again.

If people have a problem with another site, why not discuss it there? If they have a problem with this site, then post it in the questions and suggestions forum.

There is no actual point to this thread, the way it's going now. LB will continue to do whatever they think is right for their site, and CAG will do whatever they think is right for this one. I doubt any points that are raised and argued in here will have any effect on either of the site's owners.

What's the point in bickering between ourselves when we are all fighting for the same thing?

summersausage::::::: i am also a memeber of legal-seagulls, as i am a member of cag, pc to name a few.

I have not paid one single penny to legal-seagulls so how can they charge from the start??????

I agree with Dave. So far this thread has somewhat wandered off topic, which is fine since it's in the bear garden. There has been quite a robust debate without anyone getting shirty with anyone else, and so far at least people have manged to agree to disagree.

I think you have misunderstood me MR STRONG. I wasn't suggesting that they charge their users 'from the start', I was only pointing out that they've been offering things for sale 'from the start' of Legal seagulls. To draw an analogy, I can sit in the lobby bar of the Royal Hotel in Brighton all day long without paying a penny for anything. Why do they allow me to do this? Because by offering 'free' services they hope to encourage me to buy a drink, or maybe lunch. In exactly the same way, if I wanted to make money out of a web forum, I would offer lots of free stuff in the hopes that a few people would partake of some of the paid for services.

sorry but I thought we all copied case law, used the law to our benefit to better or remidy our own situation, I post on cag LB and pcf, and the only attitude I have met is here, you ban people who want to speak their mind if it does not suit your arguement. Yes well done Dave and BF for the hard work you have put into this site, but you cannot argue with evoloution, learn from LB and PCF as they will you, stop the playground bullying and get back to what your good at, helping joe public get back at rip off Britain:-D :-D
