 Big warning.

I have just received my electric bill by British gas,

of £1600 for a quarter, i thaught definatly wrong,

so i rang they told me my bill had been altered,?????????

From febuary 07 estimated reading to may 07 official reading

a total of11631 units @11.14 per unit plus other bits, bill of £1600 odd pounds,

I have always paid my bills by Direct Debit so dont owe anything,

The last 3 bills were all official readings, the numbers are all in front of the estimated reading,

I rang they say my billing has been restructured backdated to october 05,

and all my previous bills and official meter readings have been scrapped,

bearing in mind the cost of a unit in 05 was 5.28 per unit

and they have billed me at 11.14 per unit

is this FRAUD or a big con,

Has this happened to anybody else, if so then BG are on a good number

BG are *******s.

Hang on to all of your old bills. BG will say that they cannot view them because they have sent a replacement.

They will, however have all of your readings on file.

If BG won't play ball then contact Energywatch. They will give you a case number and put you through to a "high power problem resolution person" who (in my experience) will be able to sort it out.

Calculate what the bill should be first - not too difficult in your case because you have the old bills and don't accept anything more. They have changed their gas billing system recently (and ****ed it up) so it's probably the same for electricity. They seemed desperate to get problems sorted asap and get on to the next one, so if they argue, argue back.

They should also offer you some compensation as well according to their t&c - not a lot but better than nothing - for the trouble that you have been put to
