HAHAHA! :D Thanks for the welcome and all the punny replies! I swear to gawd that I didn't plant the sticker, and it could not have been stuck into the shell after the egg was broken, as I don't eat jaffa oranges (or cakes for that matter!). I don't plan on a lawsuit, that would be just silly. I wasn't sick, just a bit amused and disgusted. I really would like to know what Tesco Free-range organic chickens are eating.. must be jaffa orange rinds and maybe other garbage! I'll upload my pics onto Flickr and put the link here for you all to see.

Thanks Martin3030 - I like the idea of writing a letter to Tesco to see how they can explain it. See what kind of explanation they can cook up, watch them scramble around a bit (eh? eh? )

You look like a fun group - maybe I'll stick(er) around for a while!

It is impossible for it to have been something the chicken ate. As someone said earlier, the reproductive and digestive systems are completely seperate, not to mention birds have an extremely powerful digestive system.

Some birds have gizzards that are so powerful they could grind up needles of steel in a matter of hours.

I doubt a paper sticker would survive even the weaker avian digestion.

So, there you go. The only possible way is if it managed to work it's way into the hen's reproductive system before the shell membrane was created.

And thats a long way to go...

This seems highly unlikely as birds do not even have willies, so work that one out

Hi doompixie,

I went to the Royal Highland Show today and had a talk with the woman running the poultry tent, and she has said that she's heard of this happening before, but it is extremely rare. I sent her the pics and she's going to have a look and get back to me.. but apparently it can happen!

I'll post her response when I get it.

I can't pass this up! What came first - the chicken or thye Egg. I know the answer (read it in some science mag about 5 years ago). If you want, if you realllly want, I can post the answer, and you can amaze your chums with your scientific knowledge should the question ever be asked in future.

Now excuse me while I go get a life.....

Oh, OK then. Was gonna hold out but....

The answer is the egg. The reason?

for there to be a chicken, there needs to be an egg. But for there to be an egg, you don't necessarily need to have a chicken.

If you have two not-quite chickens, and the chicken gene in each of them is paired on mating, then a chicken egg is produced.

Don't you just feel beter for knowing that?!
