Now, you know I am not a PCW employee in disguise , and that I am usually not slow in criticising them.

In this instance, I want to recognise when the job has been done right.

Background: Bought a laptop 11 months ago. 5 months into ownership, power supply unit started shorting, loose connection somewhere, quite obviously. Laptop went off (collected from home and returned home) and from then on, things were never right. For some reason, the PSU kept on getting replaced and then dying again within days of the laptop beign returned. On 3 rd call, I was advised if it happened again, they would give me a replacement. Hmmm, thought I, a suspicious person.

PSU died again. I phoned the Tech guys yesterday, they took some info, gave me 2 ref nos, and told me to take laptop to store. I thought: "here we go"...

People, listen to this: Within 15 mns, I was basically told to go and choose a new laptop with a value of up to £599.99, (if I wanted a more expensive one, I would have to pay the difference, obviously, and no refund of the difference if I had chosen something cheaper) no argument, no depreciation, nothing, straightforward value for value exchange.

Furthemore, as I was waiting for the new one to come out of the store-room, the 1st assistant who had handled our initial query was coming back from lunch, she veered towards us to ask us if we had been sorted ok.

So well done to PCW Croydon, if all your stores were like this, we wouldn't get so many unhappy customers on here. :-D

Well well well! A pity that doing that right thing has to be seen as something spectacular, and not something normal.

Some stores seem to think that doing what hey are supposed to do is going out of their way.

Did you hypnotise the staff?

Guest dontgetitsorted_SUETHEM!!

retailers aint that bad, its all about the smile.

i one weekend got bored bought a couple pack of CD's from a store and on one day returned slamming the CD's on the counter demanding a refund because they not record my blah blah work and i needed it for a presentation this morning. demanding they reimburse me the disks and petrol.

ofcourse i got nowhere, my demands that they deal with it NOW and not go away to test the disk writes also got rejected.

(before i carry on i am into psychology and i was experimenting)

simply put they were able to record a file to disk and said sorry it must be me or my computer and they cannot do a refund.

the next day armed with the same pack of disks i went in, queued quietly, aproached the staff with a smile and in a joking manner said "can i have a refund on these frisbies as i cant record anything to them". the staff member laughed back and asked, am i sure i did not want some better disks to try or just the straight refund.

no testing no arguments no treating me like i dont know how to record to disk.

a smile does help everyone. and if ur the opposite sex to the person who serving you some flirting helps too..

And considering that the assistant who served me went to speak to the manager, who never clapped eyes on me before instructing her on giving me the replacement, am I to understand that my smile was so dazzling that he could see it through walls?

Honestly, RPOV AKA DGISST, you do talk some cr*p, and then some. As for the flirting part, I am proud to say I have never used sex as a weapon to get my way in a commercial way, and you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking of advising it. That's just plain creepy. :-(

Yup, ROPV strikes again. What an absolute load of ballcocks. So you're suggesting that you purchased blank CD's / DVD's and returned them twice purely in the name of a psychology experiment? Once in an angry fashion and the 2nd time in a witty fashion almost bordering on sexism?

Firstly, this story is baloney. Secondly, if it were really true then I do so wish I was the manager at the store you tried it on at. And finally, go take your idiotic stories and misguided advice elsewhere.

What a strange little world RPOV lives in, when he's got nothing better to do than conduct dubious experiments on poor unsuspecting shop assistants. I thought he had a shop to run...? Can't be going too well, what with his not being on the premises and that long, long queue of customers at his service desk trying in vain to get him to process their legitimate right to a refund/repair/replace...

As for flirting to get your way - you're right, Bookie, that is just creepy. I've worked for managers like you, RPOV, and suffice to say all us staff, male and female, cringed and laughed at them behind their backs for being horrible, sweaty, lecherous old men with no life. :D

whilst the way he describes it is kinda creepy and weird dontgetitsorted_SUETHEM!! vbmenu_register("postmenu_946919", true);

actually has a point

take it from some one in the know unless the manager of the store that you are shopping in is a spinless fool then being an arse to him/her and his/her staff is not going to get you anywhere

the nice people get what they want or at least a compromise the bastards get a polite **** of.

think of it in this way in what ever job it may be that you do if some one came in to your place of work and abused you, would you then sit there and say thanks for that now what can i do to help you? ofc you wouldnt.

retailers are people just like you, the only differnce is they are not C U Next Tuesdays to people when they go shopping :D

Wow, you managed 18 posts on this account before I spotted you! You are getting really good at this. I only wish I was a mod and had access to IP adresses as I do on the online game I play as it's so much easier to ban IP addresses than multiple ID's. Still, 10/10 for making so many posts on this one without me spotting it.

Correction! I hadn't spotted your posts because you made 4 shortly after registering and the other 14 within roughly a 4 hour time period this evening. Can you mods do something about banning this trollers IP address else pass me details in order that I can file an abuse complaint at his ISP please.

And yes, this is RPOV again.

hmm i have no idea who RPOV is and would happily have ni problem with you checking my IP adress if you so wished as i am as have stated in a number of your replies i am very very confused

the reason for my account existing is that i currently have a bank charge claim going please check the Lloyds TSB forum for confirmation

i am sorry to say that i am not the person you think i am or in fact have any idea of who the person you think i am.

i didnt realise that writting an opionion on a subject was against the rules of this forum i generally thought that was the reason for the existance of forums.

Methinks you protest too much. Anyone else may have put a question mark, are simply ask "WTF are you talking about?"

Your style of writing, the poor grammar used, and the information contained in your posts suggests that you are indeed RPOV, or some poor sucker who has been so completely mislead by him that you have taken on his/her identity.

I pity you.

i dont know who the guy is so not sure how i can have been misled by him but i clearly made an account in may 2006 just to imitate him *sigh*

i now remember why i stay away from forums in general.

as i previously stated to someone else on this forum the reason for me even posting here was simply that i was reading up on bank charges (as i am in the middle of reclaiming some at the moment) and spied this part of the sight and as some one who works in retail thought i would take a look at it.

My apologies for the accusations. As stated in the other thread you have similar occupations and style of writing and since you have lain dormant for so long and suddenly come back to life with numerous posts in a short period of time recently I assumed the worst. I offer my apologies.

To be honest, he does have a point - a smile sometimes does go a long way - and so it should; politeness never hurt anyone, or cost anyone anything.

It used to be that way at least, although I've found being polite in letters gets you nowhere, threatening seems to work when using the pen.
