While I'm still reading up on all of the great advice and case notes on here I thought I'd get my claim started. I've been banking with the Halifax since 1996 and had a savings account with The Leeds (didn't they merge?) since I was about 5. This means that in one form or another they've been my bank for more than 20 years.

I dread to think of the charges I've incurred but I've had a loan, a credit card, an ISA, a savings account and my current account. Sensible banking wasn't really my middle name and it's only since handing over the money to my Fiancee that we're getting back on track!

This site has definately got me bouncing! I opened my CC bill the other day and gave a little smile and small skip when I saw the £25 late fee. Ah... They have no idea!

Anyway, I plan on claiming the charges on my current, credit and loan accounts and since I dont have a tonne of paperwork I called Halifax for all of my account details. I know it's not quite a DPA letter but it's a start. I was surprised though that they couldn't give me the information over the telephone dspite the security checks you have to pass to even speak to an operator. Anyway, they said they'd pass on the request and mail out the inforamtion I requested.

You'll have to forgive me, every time I type Halifax I want to type what we actually call them in this house. I'm sure you can imagine!

So Halifax, En Garde!

:) Welcome MrLulu,

I would suggest that you do not wait for whomever you spoke to to pass on your request to mail out the information, but to send your DPA letter out now ... as it is well known for banks to forget about calls

:) Go on ... you know you want to click me :)

:lol:don't be like the banks - give a little back

Hi again,

Just sitting here emailing my lass at work and she raised a good point. We're going to claim against Halifax card services for the credit card and also the loan and current a/c but we think they're all registered at different addresses.

So who do I sent the DPA to and do I need to send more than one and pay more than one charge as a result OR, (and I've only just read this in another post) should I go to my local branch and reuest them all at once in person. That makes more sense actually but what do you all think?

EDIT - It's cool, found what I needed in the FAQ.

Heres the Address we used for the credit card

Halifax Card Services

Pitreavie Business Park

Dunfermline

Fife

KY99 4BS

We used the trinity road one for our current account as for the loan I have no idea I am afraid but would have thought the Trinity Road one would be alright

There is a thread "contact details for the Halifax " it maybe in thereor perhaps going through the forum and seeking out another member going for a loan claim

When you get your credit card statements and do the claim we used the trinity road adress as scottish law is different than English law regarding these claims and if they come to less than five thousand you can merge them in one claim

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I should've listened to Mechs after all!

I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and ask them to send me a list of the accounts I've held with the Halifax since my youth. Two weeks ago today I did that. Two whole weeks and in that time I've had any amount of mailers asking me if I want to transfer balances, get a loan and such like.

I was fuming this morning. So angry that I told work I'd be late and I went straight to the Halifax. Poor lad on the desk didn't know what hit him and to be fair he was an absolute gent. He soon managed to calm me down and I explained what I wanted and why I want it. Sure enough he listed all of the accounts. I was expecting three or four but it turns out that i have had nine. One of them started as a boy still has 74p in it.

Anyway, got what I wanted and went to work. I prepared the DPA covering three bank accounts, finished early and dropped it in. I used the template letter and asked another fella just who it needed to go to. He read it and exclaimed "Nice one!" He took my money, gave me a receipt and wished me luck. The letter has to go off to head office now (the manager had to dig out the reference code to attach to the letter) but I've started counting now. 40 days...

One of the things that really ****ed me off this morning is that they have no problem sending me crap through the post but when it comes to something we want then we have to jump through hoops for it. To be fair to the branch staff they were great, it's just the monkeys in the call centre!

I'm buzzing!

I know its tedious .but think of the pot of gold at the end ............take the time now to see what the next stage you have to do and the one after that .......

Who knows you may have the statements there in a couple of weeks

Good Luck
