Hi

I filed my data protection request on 21 May with a cheque enclosed, I have royal mail conformation that they received the letter. To date I have received no contact from the bank and the cheque has not been cashed. I contacted the customer service and they were most unhelpful. It was a foreign call centre who did not understand what I was trying to do.

My question is should I just wait till the 40 days are up or should I be pestering the bank to get conformation that my request is been processed.

Many thanks in advance.

have you tried accessing your statements online? If you haven't registered for online services with HSBC it might be worthwhile doing this. It may be quicker that waiting for them to supply them to you.

You can also do a non-compliance letter which you can find in the bank templates library

hey :)

I have just started my request for my bank charges from HSBC also and have just got the LBA stage. However I didn't send a data protection request as I have online banking and you can veiw all your statements. Have you thought of doing this as I found it much easier as the information was in front of me within less than a minute. I think you can set up for an online banking account via the HSBC website or ringing someone in customer services.

As for the 40 days from what I can gather HSBC are leaving this very late and a few people have even had their statements a couple of days after the 40 day time period. I have also read that sometimes the £10 cheque hasn't been cashed and posted back with the statements. So i wouldn't worry about it just yet. If you decided not to go down the on-line banking route and haven't heard anything from the bank after 40 days I would suggest sending another letter stating that you have already sent one and you have proof of it being sent as it went recorded delivery.

If you need any other help let me know

Cherickle :p

Thanks for the online tip I have been to my accounts and got some of the information. One of the accounts was closed a couple of years ago so there is no online access to this. I will wait and see what happens.
