I have actually kept my bank statements from Abbey and so I plan to send them the first letter straight away. They have benefited to the tune of £2,498 from me during the 6 year period, although they haven't had anything from me in over 18 months.

Before I send them the letter on the website, should I be adding the interest figure to this sum? I have plugged in the numbers to the excel spreadsheet and this adds a further £455.

Please let me have your comments. Between the Abbey and Halifax (who I am also looking to chase) I have paid £6,344 in charges!

Thanks.

It's in the FAQs but no, interest is added when the claim goes into the court office.

Why didn't you know this?

  • 2 weeks later...

In response to my letter of 7 March 2006, I finally received a reply on Saturday 18 March from Abbey plc (although their letter was dated 13 March).

In her (unsigned, automated) letter, Dawn Hoyle (Head of Customer Satisfaction) was very sorry that I was unhappy. She wants to look into this matter and hopes to come back to me within 4 weeks. Also she pointed me in the direction of their Customer Satisfaction Leaflet which was apparently enclosed (not).

This morning, I sent them a fax with a hard copy in the post advising them that their timescales were unsatisfactory and that unless payment was received in full within the timescales mentioned in my first letter (i.e. 2 more days) I will be filing with the county court.

Will this prompt a response? Probably not, however I will be completing the claim form on line on Wednesday morning.

I doubt anything will speed up. Keep to your timetable, file a claim - that does bring a response.

I have filed an HMCS Money Claim online this morning against Abbey as they have not come back to me with anything meaningful within the 14 day deadline stated in my letter. £2,960.27 + court costs.
