hi ,im gary claiming off abbey,they shut my account today via a letter saying a "field agent" with be visiting my house within 7 days to recover the debit card and cheque book if i dont send it back

they offered me 863pounds refund on bank charges but owe me 2485 pounds



nice people abbey,was with them 23 years

Hi Kroneeyman, I hope you opened another account,this is what you are advised to do at the beginning of your claim. Although a lot of banks won't close your account, they can and will if they want!

Hello and Welcome,


I was with BOS for about the same number of years and they shut my account too.(nothing like throwing the dummy out of the pram). Have a look in the Abbey Forum, read a few threads then start one yourself. People dealing with Abbey will be able to help you with your claim. Read all the F.A.Q.s and step-by-step instructions. Makes the process easier in the long run. Oh, and BOS managed to open my (closed) account when I claimed a second time, so they could take their £300 overdraft from my claimed back charges.

hi ,thank you for you immediate response..i have opened another account 2 months agoto so all is ok there,i have rang abbey to tell them the 863 pounds is not acceptable so they said the complaint i made will go to a stage 2 and they will further investigate my complaint. as of yet i have not threatened legal action

You've definately taken the first step into claiming back what's rightfully yours.


Spend time reading the FAQ's and the Step by Step guide as this will stop you making mistakes along the way. Use the letters and spreadsheets in the Templates Library as these have all been tried and tested in successful claims. Read as many threads as you can especially ones that relate to your bank. This is a SELF HELP site and won’t do the work involved for you. However, everything you need is on here somewhere.


Don't be afraid to ask any questions, no matter how stupid they may seem, but please remember that any advice that you receive is normally based on experience only and that you should seek expert advice if required.


Once you start the process of your claim remember to open a thread in the relative bank forum, this will enable you, and others helping you, to keep track of your claim.
