I wonder how easy it would be to start your own bank? call it the consumer action bank.

This bank would specialise in basic accounts with no monthly fees, no overdrafts, and if people were to get D/D's returned or go into the red etc. charge a nominal fee of £5 or so. Obviously it would need to be funded in some way, so there would have to be an element of a charge somewhere, but this could be much lower than the greedy banks need.

Very difficult to the point of being impossible for a private individual in the UK. Unless you have millions in cash in which case you could open a very small bank which would (in effect) be a relationship with one of the big banks as they would be the people clearing your cheques. However, you wouldn't be able to be a clearing bank unless the amount you have is in the billions; and who has a spare few billion lying around? If you do; call me!

FSA regulations make it very very difficult to open a banking organisation as it involves many aspects of the law. Also, APACS would probably object and they may hold some sway with the government.

Hence why there are (and have been for years) the "Big Four" clearing banks.

Sorry, but it was a nice idea all the same.

Well how do the local credit unions work then? I thought they were independant of the banks.

A credit union is not a bank, and they are regulated under different law; there are different requirements for starting them (and the process is still not simple). ABCUL

i will be off site for the next month or so. if you have any problems, feel free to report the post so a moderator can help you.

on a more intresting note how do you start your own charity? for example if i started a charity that was to help (one person in) old age (aimed at moi obviously) then i could do an automatic deduction from wages into it and gift aid any other moneys going in so have a nice big sum in my old age

You apply to the Charity commissioners for registration.

They would probably refuse in your case as there is no public charitable activity - since you cannot have reserved benefit, which you are suggesting.

if you want to contribute to your old age tax-free, then a pension is the obvious answer.

I don't think is funny using Nigerians as a joke on this forum. It irresponsible and bad faith. Many of us has contributed to the sucess of this forum and positively help people in need. I hope this post will be deleted.

I really do not think labrat meant any offence by posting about Nigerians he/she? was making reference to the email [problem] that we are all getting sent asking for all our personal details. Please do not take the comments personally. :)

Sadly to start a bank you would need FSA authority on Regulated Services, Capital Adequacy of 8% minimum, other various Basel II compliances and lots and lots and lots of money....amongst other bits. Hence as mentioned previously in the thread there is a tight market on retail banks and it seems it is likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future...

It is possible as also mentioned to start a Credit Union though with a few investors..

Failing that yeah try to the interenet [causing problems]...lol

Shirley

Speaking of owning a bank, i think it fitting to make reference to the Rothchilds Family, as they practically own your bank. They also practically start all wars our country's fight, and that our children die in. Mayer Amschel Rothschild had five sons with Gutle Schnaper, and she is quoted as saying; "If my sons did not want wars, there would be none."

If i may, i would like to invite you to view the following video clips
