I desperatley need a loan to pay the vat man, but i have a bad credit rating and i am a tenant. I have been on the net to look for a lender but there are so many and i am worried about being ripped off. Yes loans agreed the amount £3000 on the phone and just needed £49.50 for their admin but when i read the small print when their paperwork arrived it said the £49.50 was just to consider my application, I dont want to keep applying as this would adversley affect my credit rating further. any body know of a reputabel lender for my situation.

I dont have a huge aount of experience but is it worth asking HM Inland Revenue to accept installments rather than a lump sum ? They will charge interest but this might actually be at a cheaper rate than you would pay a lender.

All comments are my personal views - if in doubt then seek professional advice. If you think i've helped then please tip my scales.

Reputable Companies do not charges fees for considering the applications. Some may charge fees at the conclusion a successful application.

PUTTING IT IN WRITING & KEEPING COPIES IS A MUST FOR SUCCESS

All you will get for your £49.50 is a lot of searches on your credit record as they go looking for somebody to take you on - been there and now having searches cleared from my file.

DON'T fall for this one, you will only end up with companies such as Welcome Finance, Black Horse Loans or another bunch of clowns who charge high interest rates and will insist on you having a PPI.

Just remember that They CANNOT make PPI a condition of obtaining a Loan, though a lot of them do in round about ways.. Just be Creful..

Lloyds TSB -PPI - Full refund . 05/09/06 :D:p (As Seen on TV) :p

Halifax settled in Full.. :D 22/09/06

TSB First Claim SETTLED IN FULL 19/10/06 :D

Second Claim to Lloyds TSB - Settled in Full

Firstplus - early settlement interest charges - Challenged the use of the rule of 78 - SETTLED IN FULL 12/1/07

PPI - GE Money / Purpleloans / Firstplus - Now Settled after 1 year long hard fight.

Try speaking to Business Debtline on 0800 197 6026. They give free confidential advice & specialise in helping people who are self employed or Ltd companies with stuff like income tax, NI, VAT etc.

I'm not saying there's a agic solution but they may know of something else you can try; they're open 9 - 5 Mon to Fri but if you try them just before 9am quite often they log in early to take calls...

Can only reiterate to be careful re the loans asking for an admin fee but unsure what else to suggest along getting loan lines... best of luck

Yes loans are not a very good bet !! I applied a couple of years ago for a 10k loan which they accepted. I sent the £49.50 cheque off and approx. 4 days later received a call from another lender who Yes Loans had sourced. I was at that point only offered 3k (7k short of what I needed!!) at a whopping 24%apr !!!!!

I told them to stick it !! Just be aware they aren't what they seem!
