In Dec 2004 our central heating boiler packed up.

We arranged for British Gas to install an new one at a cost of £2000.

At the time British Gas were offereing a £200 cash back scheme for your old boiler.

When the invoice arrived the cash back was not listed.

I contacted British Gas and asked for an ammended invoice to be sent.

Nothing......

Then this weekend (May 5th 2007) I have recieved the original invoice again.

Am I still liable for this given the amount of time which has elapsed?

I would be very grateful for any advice as to howe to handle this.

Thanks

HI rvandepeer and welcome to CAG

The upshot is that yes you are still liable for the cost of the boiler, although this may not be the news you wanted :(

What I would do is contact BG, make sure you have got the discount you were originally offered and make an offer of payment to clear the bill.

If the bill was not cleared they can and will take further action. The courts would not look kindly on the fact you knew you had to pay it and didnt, even with the 2.5 years it has taken for them to contact you and would almost certainly make an order for you to pay it anyway.

I know a lot of people think if a company does not make a request for payment for a certain period of time then nothing is owed, but unfortunately this rarely happens, especially with bigger companies like BG.

Sorry, but hope this helps

Cheers Mrsfoot,

I did contact BGas straight away and asked for a correct invoice once again.

Hopefully it might take them another 2.5 years to get back to me again.

I am inclined to leave the ball in their court unless I get a reply which urges me to contact them again.
