Hi,

A few months ago I paid off about £1200 to the Halifax for a Visa card belonging to my sister. About £800 of this was penalty charges. I'm not sure where I stand as the account wasn't in my name and technically my sister didn't pay the amount off herself.

Is there any way that I or my sister can reclaim any of this money?

Best regards,

Duncan.

Absolutely, yes. Obviously, the claimant will have to be your sister's name, and she'll get the money back, not you. If you're planning to do it yourself, make sure she writes to them giving you permission to discuss her details, with a sample of your signature.

About a year ago my sister gave permission for Halifax to discuss the account with me and they have accepted this. Can I apply to receive copies of her statements using this permission or will I have to ask my sister to do it? My sister has health and matrimonial problems so it would be quicker and easier if I can deal with this alone as much as possible.
