    • (Almost) absolutely (to your first point) HB, and partial agreement with your second point.   It isn’t now low vaccination rate though, it is low vaccination rate in the immunocompromised (and the whole host of other pressures that come with sociopath-economic challenges in the developing world) . Virus mutation is expected for the coronaviridae. Add to that prolonged replication / shedding in the immunocompromised, increased risk of transmission in those environments (poorer housing / access to healthcare / lower vaccination rates / inability to self-isolate when unwell), and emergence of variants can be expected. (If you are in a marginalised group and living hand to mouth at best, when unwell you can’t self-isolate / stop doing whatever gives you some income, let alone arrange for food deliveries ……)   vaccines? Production in the developing world needed, as well as vaccines from the developed world. At what point should the focus switch from “vaccinate our population at most risk” to “vaccinate the developing world’s population at most risk” to protect OUR population (from the emergence of new variants that have greater escape from current vaccine).   Whilst travel bans appeal to those who want to blame “Johnny Foreigner”: a) Omicron is already here. b) “Punishing” South Africa (or anywhere with a robust sequencing / surveillance system!) is counter-productive. We don’t seem to learn the lessons of history (1918 H1N1 ‘Spanish Flu’ didn’t originate in Spain ……)
    • I wonder if this variant is anything to do with the low vaccine rate in southern Africa, leading to more mutation of the virus than in Europe.   I think the manufacturers should have released the formulation of their vaccines so that poorer countries could make their own, rather than waiting until rich countries had vaccines to spare.
    • That's a great speech, UB. Points well made.
    • very informative speech on migration by Lord Kerr in House of Lords.
    • Hi I haven't signed anything I did it on line .  It's a biasi combe  boiler  it's about 8 to 9 years old .  I'm looking in to buying  the parts and getting it fixed but I need to wait to get my pips but then I need to pay Bill's and what's left see about the parts .I'm looking in to getting a grant /loan .. As your repair has cancelled the policy . What it would cost me to argue with them then they turn round and say still not fixing it . As they done excuse after excuse  If you look at there bad reviews   you see they done this load and loads Times  it's all the same BS they say to ppl and I dont have any paper work which shows me terms and conditions so they can make up the crap as they go along  Like one excuse I only have £400 cover . Yet on the policy when I joined  !! We cant fix it we replace it !!   One the questions was how old is your boiler  answered 8 to 9 years   excuse it too old   the boiler is still for sale in B&Q now same model   £1.100  they just cheap knock off  if they can fix your boiler for less than £50 but you pay them £700 over 3 years then there in profit  so cheap repairs they will do expensive ones   uneconomical to repair we not fixing it .terms and conditions.....

Well done!!!

I just joined this forum and wanted advice re: abbey. I have had no joy with them offering even a partial payment so threatened court action and just had another letter saying they are still looking into it and will reply in 4 weeks (had one of these letters alreday) so looks like I have to start court proceedings - just not sure what i need to do - did you have to start court proceedings - can you help?
