I put my car in for an MOT yesterday at a garage I haven't used before but my sister had MOT'd her car there a couple of weeks ago & all was fine.

The MOT went well, only a slight amount of work to do & was reasonable. Also very friendly.

My problem is, when I got the car home, I realised my handbrake now pulls up very high, very easily and doesn't seem strong. This wasn't the case when I dropped the car off at the garage. I have no proof that it wasn't like this before it went in & am a little bit upset but not quite sure what to do. Is anything I can do & will the garage most likely tell me to get lost if I call and tell them?

They might have had to adjust the handbrake so that it passed the MOT. Did they charge you for any extra work you had done? You could try taking it back and asking them to re-adjust it. It shouldn't affect the MOT result as the MOT is only valid on the day of issue, however, they might charge you for this work.

typically a hand brake should be capable of stopping or holding your car between 5-7 clicks.

as a test, put the car infirst gear with the handbrake fully engaged.

if without using the accelerator you can pull away in first gear, it is dangerous.

if however it holds the car, then everything is as it should be.

there is nothing to stop you or someone that knows what they are doing to 'knotch-it-up' a few clicks.

it very easy.

however it is just as easy for the garage to do it.

i would explain that you have a drive with a slope and you have noticed it 'crept' down the drive overnight when it did not do it before MOT.

it is so simple, i doubt they will charge anything.

just be nice an freindly.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
