On my statement I have all of the charges but I don't understand what 'Total Charges' are for, it does not reflect the charges for the period and it is debitted from the account.

Can anyone help?

It is usually the total charges that have been made for you go over any agreed limits the £15 - 35 a pop that they charge because it supposedly costs them that much to administer your error. Definately claim these back :-)

if it is HSBC then they are NOT a total of your charges for the month. It is an additional charge which you should add to all the others.
