:) Hi everyone.

I thought i'd phone Barclays Telephone Banking to request a list of Charges I have incurred over the last 6yrs.

I expected them to fob me off but was quite surprised when the customer service adviser couldn't be more helpful.

She explained that they can't provide a summary but can send my statements out for only £5. Then she went on to explain the process that Barclays are using:

The statements should arrive within 5 Days

Then highlight all charges and summarise with date and amount

Write back to them with the summary of charges/enclose photocopys with the highlighted items and send back telling them what you expect and how much you want back and if you want the interest. Personally i will send recorded mail to prove delivery.

Then they will write back within 5 days to confirm they recieved the request.

And then it will take no more than 40 days for them to give you a result of the request!!

They were really positive about it. I'm impressed with Barclays so far!

When I phoned telephone banking on the 26th March I also had a very helpful advisor. I was told there is no charge and they would be with me in six days. I'm still waiting, but have since phoned again to make sure they have my request for them.

yes they are really helpfull when you ring, really positive about your claim etc etc

i dont want to put a dampner on it but when i rang i was initally told five days, on the fifth day i was told ten days, on the tenth day i was told 21 days, i eventaullay received my statements on the 30th day!!!

But at least i got them in the end!!

Hopefully you will get yours in the timescale stated, if not keep badgering them like i had to!!

The thing is Shaz, they CAN afford to be late in sending out you paperwork, cos you cant put the deadline on them, you didnt send in a SAR.

This under the DPA 1998 would have given them 40 days max,

but you im afraid, unless you send in a SAR now, must wait until they are ready to send you your stuff.

sorry!

It's easy to make promises over the phone that are never kept.

I won't deal by phone if I can help it. I find it much better to do everything in writing, and consider very carefully what I want to say.

PLUS, you have a written record of every communication and reply.

Saying 'they told me....etc.' in court is no good without anything to back it up.

Sad but true.

Good advice oneofakind.

Also, I always advise you send ALL communications via Recorded Delivery, makes it harder for them to argue they didnt receive in time etc.

dont give them any room to wriggle,
