Hello - I have just been looking on the site while preparing to take on Fasthosts after problems with them. It seems to be the same old story - changed card details and got automated mail saying payment failed. repeatedly tried to change card details on their site, even mailing them to said have already done so, only to be ignored, then have £23.50 withdrawn from my account with no warning. Contested with my bank and had reversed, only for it to be taken again. changed card details again, to protect my account from them dipping their fingers in every 5 minutes, just in time by looks of it, as they now want £60 for the fact that I contested their inflated charges!!! have not used account, as has benn froxen since last year, and have now transferred my email hosting. when I tried to cance account this week and request all info held be destroyed, they said was suspended, and wont close until further charges paid!!

 

Am using same principles I used to get my money back from my bank for their excessive charges, As if all major banks cant legaly justify £20-£30 charges for letter that costs pence, how can fasthosts?? All I received was automated emails, and was unable to update my details on their site anyway, so is obvioulsy ploy to be able to apply very profitable penalty charges, especially as so many people seem to have been caught by the same I am going to be sending them the same letter citing:

the Unfair Terms in Consumer Regulations 1999. In addition I believe that your charges are a Penalty. Penalty charges are irrecoverable at common law. The precedent for this was Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co Ltd v New Garage and Motor co Ltd [1915] AC 79 along with Murray v. Leisure play [2005] EWCA Civ 963. It was held that a contractual party can only recover damages for an actual loss or liquidated losses. It is clear that your charges do not reflect any actual and or real loss.

Would like to hear from anyone who has had similar experiences. About time Fasthosts poor reputation was explained to the masses before more people get problems Maybe a group can get together and file a case to be used as a test case? If we can win one, it would set a simliar precedent, and with all our combined evidence, ie everyone having problems changing details, I dont see how they can defend themselves.

Hi Robert - Cant offer much advice yet - just share your pain!! I too have been ripped off by Fasthosts Scams!!

 

Same story - card details changed, automated email saying payment didnt go through, several attempts to change details failed due to their site, then money taken from acount without my authorisation. Account suspended as I contested with bank, tried to close account this week, and they wont allow me cos want to charge me £60 for contesting initial unfair charges!! now they have a years money in advance for an account that I dont want and cant use as its suspended. Also have £23.50 they retook from my account in charges (on a par with banks unfair charges - a lot for an automated email I thought), but not happy with that they want more. Have decided to take them to court, as I dont see how they can defend if banks cant, and know that all consumer groups / BBC etc would highlight case as would be good example of powers being used against banks being put to other good use. Worth it if only for the negative publicity it would bring them, and the money that would save people.

 

I am happy to help anyone else in any way I can, or maybe work with someone/ a group to bring them to justice and get people their money back, so I thought I would mail you! Could you let me know how it goes? I have got 13 days before I file my claim. could you give me an idea of costs? would it help your case to have my details/emails as further evidence - ie the fact that it is impossible to change card details?

When do not qoute consumer regulations unless you alone have the website. Mine was for my business and so I qouted the wrong regulations. However you can qoute case law (in the bundle pack > in the templates library ). At the moment looks like I'll be in court room on April 17th. I will let you know what happens the only defence they said was it costs them to develop their systems but that is unfair!

 

Asked them to justify how it costs them the money ask for a breakdown, automated e-mails do not cost anything, I wasn't offered alternative methods of payment, were you?

OMG, I am having trouble with them, trying to log into my account but the details they emailed me are wrong? Therefor I can't do anything with it. Also, I want to change my card details with ukreg(which I am assuming work hand in hand with fasthosts) and it won't allow me. Ar******s!:mad:

There should be a sticky about this bunch of muppets I direct everyone I can to edited dont worry i'm not on commission nor is there a referer in that link at all theyre just very cheap with a very high quality product - I use their reseller account £29.99 a month beats FH and their £60 per month and the FH service is crippled in comparison to Heart

hehehehe just been thru something similar with a village website ive taken over was a bit of a pain but got there in the end.

 

Shame its still gonna cost you but at least you're not paying FH anymore money

I'll be in court on April 17th! Same thing, I did try and update but it wouldn't accept the details I was charge two fines of £20 each.

 

Could we perhaps have a sticky for Fasthosts? I would appreciate some help as well - court apperance wise

Also could you be a witness? I can add witness reports to my case and I'll be witness if it comes to it for your case? Only prob is the case is being held in Gloucester - you nearby?

 

I'm gonna start phoning comp mags and get complaining! lol Good idea

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

 

any help you could give me would be appreciated. Am filing at small claims as soon as the 2 week deadline I give them expires - want to rack up the costs and see them in court :) did they go, and give up, or was it found against them? mine is quite a simple case I think, but the more info I have, the better. am planning to drum up some publicity for the case too.

I've too had issues with FastHosts dating back 18 months, have until now just let them take the money as the information they gave me at the time I took as correct, however this is not the case.

If your looking to build a website avoid this company like the bubonic plague. Their "professional tools" are equvilant to a set of crayola crayons used by a 7 year old, their claims of no experience required to set up a website is false. They do not respond to complaints other than referring you to web seminars and offer NO assistance what so ever. They will take your money regardless they are a money hungry company with no regard to customer service. I can not stress enough of the enormity of a mistake you'll make by using this company.

If you are looking to build your own website and do need some sort of support use someone like Moonfruit, their tools are easy to use, their customer service does exist.

I've actually become so incensed with annoyance with Fasthosts that we're all going on a merry jaunt to the small claims court shortly, a decision I didn't take lightly but I feel their lies and false advertising warrants such action.

Use that if nothing else as a reason not to use Fasthosts. If one person is resorted to do this , is it a company you want to give your card details too?.
