hey im new here.

basically i ordered some goods from the next directory online. I hadnt realised that they dont take card payments online.

anyway, basically they phoned up and said that i had gone over my store card limit and what did i want to do. Well i was unaware that they put the goods onto a store card so told them that i just wanted to pay it all off and didnt want a card. So they said that that was all paid for. end of.

well the same day i realised i needed some more stuff so made another order, thinking it would all go through.

anyway, all the goods were delivered and i thought nothing of it. Well i got a letter through a few months later and it said i owed them £140. Well i rang them and said that when i made my order id asked for it to be paid. And they said that my first order for £600 was paid on my card, but they put it as store credit, without my authorisation. therefore when i made my next order, it just came off of that. So whats happened is over the months they have taken their monthly 'payments' out of this store credit that i didnt want, as i just wanted to pay for it. and when it finally caught up, i was obv £140 short from the second order that i didnt even know hadnt gone through.

I had the money at the time of the order, but dont now. where do i stand on this?

Looks like you are going to have to prove that you specifically said that you did not want the card.I would write to them by recorded delivery stating your complaints and giving them the information that you outline here.

Its possible that a S.A.R may show some information that may or may not prove your case.

Make the request to have this matter dealt with clearly and firmly.Maybe a good idea to tell them you are giving them the opportunity to put things right before making a formal complaint to the Financial Ombudsman service, who will of course assist you if you have no satisfactory response.

Keep a file of all your communications so that you can make this available if need be later.

Looking at their mission statement Next are a very responsible company and have made a name for themselves in their input and contributions to environmental issues and third world investment its not really the type of group that we see lots of these kinds of complaints about.

We know that online shopping is pretty faceless, and you may find that by putting things in writing instead of dealing by telephone, that a much more positive response will be forthcoming which hopefully should see this matter resolved without further action.Keep us posted.
