Hi all, am new on this site and am just browsing to see how people are getting on with reclaiming their bank charges. Just had a letter from my bank offering me a refund of £395 (and they will drop charges due to be taken from account next month) as a gesture of goodwill. This sum is approximately what they have taken from my acconut in past 5 months or so - never mind the past 6 years!. I hadn't used any of the standard letters letters posted on various websites - just wrote them an ordinary letter. Needless to say, it is now nearly 2 weeks since I requested copy statements; am not happy with their offer and am wondering where I go from here. I will obviously have to write to them again as they will deposit the suggested in my account if I do not get back to them in the next 10 days. Shall I now turn to one of the offical letters threatening court action?

Welcome to the site.

Yes you can claim back the 6 years worth.

Simply asking for statements can be tricky,it needs to be done with authority.Did you send the sar under the data protection act ?

This makes them legally obligated to send them with a one off charge of a tenner.

The only way to be certain of getting those statements is to send the sar.

If in the meantime they DO refund charges then its ok to let them do that.Make sure that you do not sign or agree to anything that closes the matter by accepting this as a final settlement.Send off the sar and read up in the faqs.

Hi Faygrant,

SAR is subject access requirement, it's a letter you send the bank to request your statements from the past 6 years.

Here is the link for the templates. :) Hope the link works (not really a teci)! If not look at the left hand column when you first sign into the CAG site under your name etc... and it has a link to templates library, you should find everything there if not 'Shout'! Good luck :D
