Hi quick question, my Dad applied for a remortgage with Lloyds TSB and paid a £450 arrangement fee. Due to them taking soooooo long to sort it he went else where. Are they entitled to charge a fee for a remortgage they didn't supplie?

Under s.14 of the Supply of Goods and Services Act the supply of services must be carried out with in a reasonable time.

If they did not actually provide a service at all I would suggest your Dad is entitled to his money back.

Hows about.....

Dear Sir.

On xx/xx/xx I applied for a Mortgage with you, for which you charged me £450 arrangement fee. Due to the time involved, I had to get this money eleswhere.

Therefore as you did not supplie me with the service I applied for, I request the return of the service fee.

Yours blaa blaa.

Any thoughts?

That sounds like it has it covered. The only thing i would add is the actual act and section you are relying on in order to get your dads money back (s14 supply of goods and services act) If you add this into the letter then you are giving a valid reason why you think the money should be refunded. If they refuse you then have some Act to fall back on and they will have to answer to rather than "i want my money back" "no you cant" syndrome.

Good luck
