Hi everyone

i have just joined and suffer from a horrendous case of bank over charges.

 

i have seen on this site that there is a cure but would like to know what proportion of the charges i am able to claim back:confused:

Hi - welcome to the CAG -- you should soon be cured of your horrendous case of "Bank Over Charges"

 

You can claim back ALL of the charges that have been made through items being returned, ie direct debits, cheques, standing orders, etc and also any over-limit charges.

 

Which bank are you with??

 

Have you sent off your SAR (subject access request)?? This enables you to see an accurate record of charges made.

 

You need to spend lots and lots of time reading the threads to see what is likely to happen.

 

You've certainly arrived at the best possible place to start! Keep to the guidelines on this site and you WILL get all of your charges back.

Hey chair - welcome on board! Best advice I can give you (as a pretty new member myself) is to read as much as you can before doing anything! Have a good look through (and print off if necessary) the FAQ's, step-by-step instructions, A-Z guide, etc. Once you've had a good read, go to your relevant bank's forum (e.g., nat west) and read as many stickies and threads as poss. Once you understand what to do, start a new thread on your relevant bank(s) forum such as chair vs .........

 

You'll find loads of brilliant support and advice on here - and if you ever get stuck, you're only one post away from an answer!

Am i being nieve (sorry about spelling), are you saying that if i have a charge of say £15 for a bounced cheque i can claim the whole £15.?

Hi! This is my first post to the Forum and I admit that I have no outstanding issues with any bank, I just want to be supportive of those who have problems.

 

Historically I have had many issues with different banks and nobody reading this should be frightened of any bank. Basically they are all nasty people and the people who work for them become intrinsically nasty people because of the way they are treated.

 

Banks are at their best when you treat them like the major supermarkets, if you don't like what they are providing - shop elsewhere. Never let them know that there is not an alternative bank looking for your business.

 

Personally I think they want to close the High Street branches to the 'man in the street' they are far too expensive to maintain. You may find that you are being treated badly because they want to close the branch and every customer that moves gives the bank an excuse to close that branch because of lack of customers.

 

Lastly, if you can afford it open another account elsewhere - you may well need it if they take exception to you fighting for your cash back - because when it comes to finance it is not good policy to have all your eggs in the one basket.

Sorry I disagree Ive met some very lovely bank workers, some of them are even members of this forum!

Agree totally with you Mochamoo. I'm a nat wester, and the cashiers at my branch are absolutely lovely - they always take the trouble to ask how you are, how's the family etc. And I wouldn't even have started my own claim if it hadn't have been for NATTIE's encouragement. He's top!!!

I have to say I've never had any problem with bank counter staff at any bank I've dealt with, they've always been helpful and never rude. I've encountered the odd stroppy manager but in those cases I put their attitude down to arrogance of youth and ignorance rather than company policy.

Being only 24hrs old on this forum I thought I'd heed the advise and read the FAQ's and threads first. having done that i found the answer to the original Q so should have done that first i suppose.

I think there are pluses and minuses to this I have come across both helpful:) and unhelpful:mad: cashiers so i think its luck of the draw on this one.

I am ever so thankful that so many people on the Forum find the front line staff at banks so friendly. Good show!!

 

The people I am talking about is the people that you have to do business with after they have plunderered your account for monies that they do not deserve.

 

Furthermore, when loans and mortgages are recalled by the bank do they sit down with you and set out the cups and the plate of biscuits and have a nice chat round the teapot?
