Do personal details, records & notes kept by the jobcentre/social security come under the DPA for disclosure? Can i apply for them as i would to my bank for my details? Thanks

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum...

Are the government (and their various departments) organisations?

YES

Do they hold information about you on computer?

YES

and therefore they have the same responsibilities as anyone else under the DPA. The only organisations who have a certain shyness about the DPA are (a) ones covered by the official secrets act and (b) medical and dental ones - and then only records which (a) would be a breach of the OSA to release and (b) are medical and dental in nature as opposed to other personal data.

If you need the information, ask for it; if they don't give it, speak to the Information Commissioner and he'll decide if their refusal is appropriate.
