Although the charges I am claiming from Lloyds come to about £4,700, if they don't pay up and it progresses to court, adding on the 8% interest produces an additional £1,000 (the charges are from three years ago). This would make the total claim more than the £5,000 limit for a small claim.

I have read elswhere that the £5,000 isn't set in stone.

Is this so?

Hi four,

The claim amount is £4'700 as that is the money owed. Statutory interest is just a reflection of the fact that the bank have had the benefit of your money and not you.

Hope this helps.
