Anyone heard of these people? I am signed up for the 30day trial with experian online and it sends me alerts telling me if there is movement on my credit file.

Just got one which says there has been a search by a company called Express Gifts LTD, The application type is "unrecorded enquiry"

Anyone know who this is? Got any ideas? What is an unrecorded enquiry will this search show up to potential lenders etc.

I have just had a search on my credit file from Express Gifts, never heard of them before. There fraud dept can be contacted on 01254 872323. It appears someone applied to open up a catalogue in my name. Ask them some details of the application and for the e-mail address they used to apply for it.

  • 3 months later...

I had never heard of Express Gifts ( Ace of Clubs) until I started receiving letters from a debt collection company called Wescot, in December of 2010 saying I was in debt.

I have never ordered from a catalogue so this was a mistake. But trying to prove that has been a nightmare. Wescot refused to answer my very reasonable questions about my 'alleged' debt. What did I buy? When ? What credit card? What proof do you have that it was me? ( signed receipt ?) Where were the goods sent?

My original concern was not the debt (it was a reasonably small sum of money) but that one of my cards was cloned or there had been a case of identity theft. They were obstructive and rude and aggressive. They simply refused to tell me anything at all about the debt except the name, Express gifts and the amount they claimed I owed. What is to stop anyone from writing to you and saying you owe money and then harassing you. I have had three months of hell. I believed it to be a trick of some kind.

I thought it was closed. They refused to send me any proof I owed money. But last week I got a letter from Nelson Guest & Partners solicitors, saying the debt had been passed to them. They were even ruder. Finally thanks to this forum I found a number for fraud prevention at Express Gifts.( their website is no help)

In one phone call directly to fraud prevention at Express gifts. the stress and harassment and continual letter writing of three months was cleared up. It appears someone else at my old address, had used my name to set up a credit line for the catalogue, 3 weeks after we had moved home. The goods were sent to that, our old address. The credit card details given were false, so payment never went through and they defaulted. They probably used a letter delivered to the old address to get my name. The investigator agreed to check my moving dates which proved it couldn't have been me. This is what I had been asking Wescot to do for months.

Within minutes of this one phone call the debt was wiped off.

Express gifts fraud prevention told me they had many instances of malicious actions ( people purchasing something and defaulting to deliberately put you in debt.) and that they were aware that Wescot received many complaints.

If this happens to you go directly to credit investigation department at Express Gifts. 01254 872 323.

I'm not sure what to do now, but I guess I have to go to the police. The lesson to be learnt is always have all mail redirected in good time.
