Hello

First try not to worry about this ;-)

HMRC usually send this when they have a break in their records. It sometimes happens if there is a missing P45 or perhaps you have been on an emergency tax code when leaving a previous employment or perhaps if you entered work after a period of unemployment.

You never know.....you may have overpaid in the past!

Hope it helps a bit!

I did this and recieved 2 payments this year.

1 for £630 the other £247

1 for 2004 the other 2005

they may be asking as they have found something as im sure they get you to admit to employers and double/triple check thier records before handing out any monies;)

Go for it:D

I got a similar letter from them demanding to know where I was as I wasn't working (Uni). I would have supplied that fact with more good grace had they worded the letter less like they automatically assumed me to be a tax cheat...

Click the scales if I've been useful! :)

Guys

Received a letter from HM Revenue and Customs - "employment record"

"You could end up paying too much tax if you do not complete this form. I need to check that our record of your recent jobs (or any period when you were not working) is correct. TO do this, I need your help. Please complete this form and return it to me using the envelope provided"

They want my complete employment history - bit concerned by this. I changed employer and was on emergency tax for a month, but was sorted by my employer immediately - the company I work for employs 67'000 people so I can't see any reason why this has been sent to me.

I doubt they are concerned I'm overpaying ! Should I be worried ? Because I am!

Reference is 951/SERV1/SG341 but don't see SG341 on HMRC website - making me even more nervous !!

Telewest,

Do keep copies of all documentation you send to HMRC as they tend to loss items. Also, useful to have previous correspondence to throw in their face when needed ;-)

I had this query last year when I changed companies - they lost my P60 when I asked for it to be returned, but found it 3 months later!

Regards,

John
