I recently wrote to Natwest to ask them to send me a list of all charges I had had to pay with them so I could try claim them back. They wrote back to me saying they would comply for a further fee of £20.

Has anyone else had this problem with them? I don't know whether to pursue it or not because I don't want to waste another £20 if down the line I won't get all my charges back.

Many thanks

Hiya. I'm new to this, but my understanding after reading FAQ's and DPA (Data Protection Act 1998) is that by law they can ask only for a maximum fee of £10 and have to submit a complete list of transactions for the last six years. You can also ask for a complete list of any events in the history of you accounts where there has been manual intervention by any member of staff, or any other person. This can all be read in the Bank Templates Library section where you ask for a DPA reuest - a letter asking them to list all charges appertaining to your account. What you are giving them is termed as a - Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998 Subject Access Request (SAR).

I only know this through reading various sections of this website and today am embarking on a similar cours on behalf of my Father. I don't know much other than what I have read on this site. My first mistake when I posted here was to not read too much and I think the more you read on this site the more of an idea you will have.

Good luck and post more messages to let me know how you get on.

Very well put. I've been here for a few weeks and I'm still finding stuff.

And yes, the £10 limit is correct. As long as you make it clear to them it is a DPA request. And I think it has to be in writing as well.
