Hi,

I take heart from the success stories I have read and sent off 1st letter to Barclays local branch on the 16th Jan 2007. They responded by telephone speaking to my wife on the 18th Jan2007 .asking why I had sent a cheque for £10 as they didnt have an account and asking for me to ring them. I do not intend to do that and will just keep it to written responses and timescales .Do you agree?

'dont have an account' ??? check your original letter, make sure details are correct. but then, did you put your tel no. in the letter? if not, they must have your details for them to obtain your no.

Keep it to written comms for now cos they will deny all knowledge of taking to you over the phone [unless you record it! - but if you do, tell them your conversations are recorded]

Hi dar3n,

and thanks for the reply. On checking, I did include a contact tel.no. on first letter to request statements. The bank employee said she would forward my letter onto complaints dept. to deal with. and asked me whether I wanted the £10 cheque accompanying the letter returned to me or destroyed, as in her words" Barclays do not have an account to deposit such cheques into." I agreed to let her tear it up.Hope this was o.k.

?? something doesnt add up here, it maybe a simple mistake, but if Barclays have ANY of your details they would be able to search their records and locate your account.

I dont know why they would deny any knowledge of your account.

If you are in communications with them again over the phone make sure you get all of the details of who you are speaking to [and dept].

Req their response in writing.

Write to your branch and ask the same question.

Failing that GO into your branch and sit down with a customer advisor, that way you can find out first hand what is going on.

Dont wory about asking for your statements with them face to face, you are entitled to them [if they exist]

this is a strange one, keep us posted.

They responded by telephone speaking to my wife on the 18th Jan2007 quote]

Is your account a joint account, or did you state initially that it was a joint account.?

IF NOT, they should not have discussed your business with your wife, OKAY, she is your wife, but THEY didnt know that, she could have been your cleaner!

worth remembering for ammo later?

I think what they are saying is that they as in BARCLAYS do not have an account to deposit such cheques into. Well thats a laugh. Barclays bank not having a chequing account...lol

If the S.A.R was handed in at a local branch, the staff probably wouldn't know how to deal with it. They've probably never even heard of a Subject Access Request, hence the response saying they would forward it to the complaints department.

The letter needs to go to the registered address, 1 churchil Place in London, with the £10 cheque enclosed. I think if its a joint account, then both parties should sign the request.

I agree with your comment about local branch staff, probably carried on doing her nails when you hung up.

I sent my SAR to my local branch, but saying that the branch in Redditch is a BIG MF. if your branch is a little village high street jobby then its prob being used to hold the fire door open.

But it wont hurt sending direct to London, communications end up there anyhoo, [esp when court is mentioned , ha ha ha]

As far as I am aware Barclays do not charge for the privilage of obtaining your details, I did state I was happy to be charged for the request to which my answer was it was F.O.C.[thats a first lol]

When I asked at my local branch for my statements, the lady behind the counter said it was gonna cost me a fortune at £5 per statement X 12 = £60 X 6 years = £360 lol. The manager wasn't any better clued up. All they seem to know about is products and charges.

Deffo think the London address is the right approach, as this is the address given on Data Protection Act website.

They do have accounts to deposit these into. he local branch may not know which account it is, but the department who deal with sar's will accept cheques. If you need an address i could possibly find out for you.

as for any letters that you send to barclays, none are opened at the branch. They are all bundled up and sent off to a big sorting area up in the Leicester area and distributed from there. This may explain why if you send post to your local branch it takes so long for someone to reply

Hi,

Hi ,

The bank employee will have by now fax forwarded on the 1st. letter to Complaints dept. and this letter was signed by both the missus and myself as it is a joint acount. Presumably they will now forward on to registered address etc. and then forward on to me the statements or charges we have requested over the last 6 years so as to further our claim. What do you think? So as not to confuse issues should I now await the outcome or resend to registered address with £10 cheque?

Hi ALL,

Received a letter from Barclay dated 23rd Jan today from retail banking customer relations dept. (complaints) at Leicester, outlining terms and conditions of account and explaining Ombudsman procedure. Also stating that they are arranging copy statements to be sent within next 10 days covering last 6 years. Awaiting!!
