Just wondering whether Halifax always start off with 'gesture of goodwill' offers that are not even half of what people are asking? Has anyone had an experience where they have offered what they owe or near enough what they owe in charges first time round?

Hi, I think it's pretty much a stalling tactic by the Halifax, they offered me about £800 less than they owe me which is roughly half of my claim.

I think it's pretty much the same through the board, although if it's not, I'm sure someone will let you know.

Is that the stage you're at now, ready to file?

Good Luck :)

Hope they don't just offer me half of what I'm claiming. It'd be less than £20!

On what I've seen on this and other forums, it is normal for them to offer only a fraction of what u claimed. You may well get them to increase that offer by haggling over the phone. The more they realise that you are clued up, the more chance of you getting what you want. good luck. i am awaiting an offer this week.

the offers are usually 60% of what you're claiming.

call them on the number on your 'offer for settlement' letter and speak to the adviser. Tell them that the offer you have is not acceptable and you'll be putting this in writing.

Then ask them if you and Halifax could come to an agreement on the phone now as you will be following this through to court stage.

They may ask what do you want, you tell them the FULL amount in relation to all the charges (don't ask for the interest you only want your charges back!). You may find that the answer will be okay and that another settlement letter on its way to you.

It happened to me and i settled before court proceedings. Full amount reclaimed. £1474.00. takes about 7-10 days for it to get into your account.

Halifax offered me the full amounts the first time round on both accounts i was claiming for - £207 and £345. They offered me it by letter after i had filed the LBA. Sent the signed agreement form on Friday last week, hopefully should see money at the end of this week.

Did a claim for a friend at work. They initially offered £1k less than she was asking for she rang them and said she works in Sols office so they can cough up or she would issue with the interest on top. They offered in full straightaway

They offered me £3165; I'm claiming £3791 and it's now been filed on MCOL, so hoping for interest and costs too, making it around £4400.

Halifax Current Account

Well, that sounds good as I actually work in a solicitors office and have done for the past 8 years!

Thanks for that info!

I did recommend her not to do it to be perfectly honest as she didnt get any interest but she wanted the money quickly and without having to shell out the £120 isue fee. They did try the "the charges are legitimate" bit thats why we threw in where she worked

My first offer from Halifax - the 'gesture of goodwill' scenario was about 75% of the total charges. I was tempted to accept but with help from good people on here who rightly said that ALL of the money is mine, I refused it and told them I wanted all. So I my claim was settled within 4 weeks.

Go for it - dont accept any gestures of good will from them!

They should compensate us for all the emotional traumas we experience too!

17 November - Prelimanary letter

25 November - Confirmation of receipt from Halifax

29 November - letter from Halifax Goodwill gesture £318 out of £408 (original claim).

6 December - Rejection/LBA Letter sent

18 December Halifax letter offering £408

18 December - MCOL completed - claiming interest and costs £523

28 December - Won! Money in account!
