Hi

I came across this site last week and after reading nearly every post figured it's time to start a thread of my own.

I'm a bit further on than most newby's 'cause I actually had 6 years (actually more!) worth of bank statements lying around- the joy of never throwing anything away!!!:D

So I've calculated that Barclays now owes me £1830. For some of the time of my account I was a student and therefore only charged £5 for each failed DD etc, so I am assuming that I can't claim for those, can someone please clarify- thanks :)

I've just written the first letter to Barclays asking for my money back, which I will post at the weekend- just want to double check my figures first.

Any helpful advice that anyone can give would be more than appreciated.

Thanks

 My timescale thus far...:D

11th January - requested statements

30th January - recieved statements

1st February - first letter sent to Barclays

10th February - acknowledgement of letter from Barclays

14th February - LBA sent

28th February - filed online with MCOL

7th March - Barclays entered a defence

3rd April - Transferred from Northampton to Uxbridge county court

11th April - Transferred to the London Mercantile Court

Hi emmy, and welcome. You can charge for any penalty charges irrespective of what type of account it was and indeed, what the charge was. Whilst £5 is more reasonable a charge than the usual ones, I would include any of these in your claim. It is up to Barclays to provide a breakdown of their true costs (which they won't ever do) so until then, you go ahead and claim for any penalty charges they have levied on you.

Good luck :)

Realised today that I'm not quite as organised as I thought :| Missing a few statements - ggrrrrrrrr

But, after checking more accuratly I realised I am owed £2105 :D and hoping it will rise once I got all my statements, does any one have any advice on how to speed up the process.

Emmy you can try calling them to request specific statements although they may charge you £5 per statement...if you're lucky you may get them for free in which case excellent. If not, you'll have to send them an S.A.R. with the £10 for the lot again. It really depends on how many are missing and if you want to pay more for the convenience of getting them quicker.

Hi,

Most of the threads I have read in the successes bit seem to point towards about 3-3.5 months(ish).

If you haven't already have a look through some of these, they are funny, uplifting and let you know what to expect and feel!

I particularly like the one 'Nightstar v Barclays' very VERY funny!

Thanks Peter

I've had a read of few threads, just hard to gauge, originally I was hoping it would be quicker case I had my statements, but realising some are missing has put pay to that :(

Will check out the Nightstar thread :)

It's a great thread as it gets to the point where nightstar has a warrant issued and calls in the baliffs!

Hope that doesn't spoil it, but it is a classic read!

I'll find the link and post it back in here as an edit for you...

Hello again Emmy - Yes, I do have claims against Barclays - one for me and one for my hubby. I started with the S.A.R. on 22 Aug...it's now at court stage, AQs have been filed on both sides for my claim (hubby's is a bit behind my timeline) so I'm just waiting for a court date, and then a full settlement to follow shortly after :)

cool!

Well you are only about a 9 days behind me, so we'll be pretty close to each other on this I would imagine. I got my 'We'll send you your statements, and as we are a great acring and sharing bank, we'll even do it for free...' letter back 2 days later (the 5th) saying that the statements would be sent when someone can be arsed to go to the printer to collect them - so in about 37 days then - so my deadline is an ickle bit ahead of yours. I am on holiday in early feb for a week, but I expect to have my statements before then and send the 'Thanks for that, now give me XX back...NOW!...or else!' letter just before the hols so I can send the 'Thanks for offering to return 10p to me, but I think I'd rather see you in court' letter as soon as I get back!

To me this is the boring bit, the waiting for the statements. So far I don't really know what I am looking forward to getting back, and I'm sort of stuck in first gear...but I will be claiming for compound interest that's for sure!

Keep me posted on your news and good luck.

Also I think you can add your timescale to your signature so it will appear on all your posts - if that was what you were thinking of doing?

Hi PJ

wow - we are close! I'll still if I can catch up to you!! We can have a race - see who can get all their money back from Barclays first!!!

I know what you mean about this being the boring bit. I'm really peeved with myself that I didn't managed to find all of my statements, as knowing I'm owed over £2k makes me want to start complaning now!

I'll try adding my timescale as a signature...

I just thought that when the time comes, we can be AQ and Bundle buddies! That way we wont get to the annoying, 'I NEED HELP WITH SECTION G' bit that everyone else does (or at least we can split the concerns between us!) lol

Signatures dont appear on every post, only occasionally. Dont know how it works, but I think the bigger the post the more chance of it appearing.

Thanks bmw!

I'll try and write really long messages then to see if I can get my signature to show!!!

PJ sounds good about being AQ and budle buddies!!! I will need all the help I can get!

Must confess though I'm really hoping that by the time it gets to that stage I will be able to negotiate with Barclays without taking them to court.

I mean at some point they must realise that they are going to settle out of court so negotiations before going to court would be worthwhile and considerable cheaper for them surely??

But, then maybe that is just too much logic for a bank to have!!
