I joined this site today after being charged over christmas £138 in charges from the halifax bank after drawing £10 too much from my account by mistake. From this it snowballed as their first charge of £39 taken on boxing day stopped another direct debit being paid which caused another charge to be levied etc.I have phoned them today and although I only get £70 a week to live on they were not prepared to even talk about this, their attitued being you landed yourself in this mess it's not our fault.Hope this site will be able to help.

Hi Ecol and welcome

First of all havea good look in the FAQs section, you wioll find all you need in there. Get to undertstand the process and the reasoning behind the claim (regs etc) it really does make it easier to follow when you do.

Also, if i can be so bold, if its benefits they are taking charges from there is something you can do to stop them now, see library for information.

Once you get started, begin a thread in the relevant forum so you can pose questions and get answered from those who are chasing same banks.

Good luck

Welcome to the forums.

Typical Halifax stories.......looks like they have had a very good Christmas,as they continue to take unlawful penalty charges to swell their coffers.

The action referred to above is called a letter of appropriation.

If you are on benefits then you should think about this to stop further debits.

You will find this in the bank templates library (letters) along with info on how to serve it.:)
