Hi all, I am new to this so hope I have done it right!! I was after a bit of advice really. I have been paying BLS collections for the last 7 years. I was wondering is there a specified time that you need to pay it for? or do you just keep paying until the debt is paid up? They keep writing and phoning me to say that I can pay a reduced amount by remortgaging or using other means. I can't afford to do that so was hoping I could kick the whole thing into touch!!

Your help is very much appreciated :)

Hi, thanks for replying....I took out 2 loans for £13,000 each for home improvements and to pay off the dreaded credit cards. I am currently paying £42, which rises to £51 in January. The outstanding balance is £23,800. It's pretty horrific isn't it? I feel quite embarrassed about it, as well as worried. Thanks.

Firstly, you need to send a CCA request to BLS ( I assume these are debt collectors). Include a postal order for £1. This will put the debt on hold. You then need the send SAR requests to the loan companies, and your credit card companies. If you were having financial difficulties, chances are there will be substantial penalty charges to reclaim which can be credited to the debt. You are not likely to be able to kick this into touch, unless BLS are unable to come up with the original loan agreement (this is a possibility but dont bank on it). The best way forward is to buy some time and try and get the debt reduced by claiming back your charges. It is also possible that BLS have also added charges and interest unlawfully. You will find template letters in the library on this site. Get the ball rolling and keep us posted on your progress. We are all here to help you.
