I had a personal trainer. He moved premises and asked for money upfront. I paid for 4 sessions. He cancelled one session, as his car broke down. I cancelled one before that because I had flu with 24 hours notice and no problem. I messaged in the morning and said I need to cancel. He offered to cancelled all the sessions. But he is keeping all the money. I asked for a partial refund but he said he has booked the next 3 weekly one day a week sessions. So no refunds. I hadn’t signed any contract or any agreements with regards to cancellation. Is he right to not offer any refund?

Help me to help others!

Have caused him losses then it would be reasonable for him to require that you reimburse him those losses.

The problem here is that you have nothing in writing and I suppose that there is no way that you can obtain evidence to show that he wasn't able to book somebody else in to replace your cancelled classes.

How much money are we talking about here?
