I recently cancelled my QHotels gym membership by email, which they confirmed had been actioned with the 30 days notice as per the contract.

This was at the end of the month and as I knew the gym was closed for refurbishment for at least a week of the following month, I just cancelled the DD.

They have now sent me a threatening letter asking me to pay this plus a £20 admin fee, which I ignored.

Today the head office have called and emailed to chase up (neither of which I have replied to).

Are they likely to take this any further?

Should I just ignore?

Hi LD and welcome to CAG

I'd simply send an email back to whoever is now chasing saying :-

I cancelled within the 30 day period as permitted and have email confirmation of this.

You have no grounds to harass me for gym or penalty fees and I will not respond to you further.

Don't answer further calls from them or block the number. Let us know if they persist.

We could do with some help from you

I think I worded my post wrong!

I cancelled the DD straight after I gave the notice, so technically I still owe them a month, therefore they do have grounds to collect this.

Just wondering if they will bother for the sake of one months fee or if it’s unlikely that they’ll take it further!

they cant take it further...

then simply offer them 1 months payment and no fees

give them 14 days to accept

if you here no acceptance in that time simply ignore them.

Ah, ok ! So what you can do is email the gym saying :-

I now realise I cancelled the DD mandate before the final DD was taken.

Please give me bank account details and a pay't ref. no. so I can pay the final monthly fee to end the matter.

Please note I will not pay any admin penalty fee and, if you demand the extra £20, I will pay you nothing.

Let us know how they reply to this.

DX is right in that they'll do nothing about this except pester you. But by offering to pay the gym fee (NOT the admin penalty), you are trying to do the right thing.
