We ‘purchased’ new iPads for our kids just before Christmas after months of trawling through websites. Packages came from Amazon,

as we opened them, no iPads, but cheap headphones, a travel mug and some cleaner.

We contacted customer service, they said they’d get collected, eventually after 4 missed collections we dropped at a parcel shop. Amazon received back our goods, and are now adamant iPads were sent. Proper investigation has not taken place by them and have decided this amounts to attempted fraud.

They refuse to investigate properly and refuse to have ‘sent’ iPads blocked by Apple. We believe theft took place inside their warehouse but they refuse to acknowledge it.

yes i understand i was on a small screen and sort of misread post 1 .

so yes amazon were responsible for items swap before they even got to you.

well sadly  of course Amazon would take the corporate view of that doesnt happen in our warehouses regardless to it being correct or not.

Did you take any photographs of the wrapping or the contents?

How old are your children?

Where they there when you unwrapped the items and saw what the boxes really contained?

How much value are we talking about here?

Also how long have you been a customer of Amazon?

How many items do you think you have bought over the last year/2 years/3 years

Are they able to provide you with the serial numbers or any other identification in relation to the missing items?

Hi, yes we’ve got photos of both packages and contents, although they’ve dismissed them as they probably think I could have changed the contents before taking the pics.

The children aren’t really kids anymore, 21 and 23, we opened the boxes and initially thought it was some kind of joke, before realising we’d actually paid over £900 for that.

We’ve been with Amazon for 10 years plus, probably ordering at least 3 items a month for the past 3-4 years. They have not supplied any numbers or anyway of tracking, surely they are able to track from their purchase, through the warehouse to dispatch and match that with their own security?

Okay. So you have some evidence.

I suppose you paid by debit card or credit card. Have you approached your bank for a chargeback?

Sorry to hear about this experience. When you write that “Amazon received back our goods, and are now adamant iPads were sent. Proper investigation has not taken place by them and have decided this amounts to attempted fraud.” what evidence have they given of this? Have they provided you with the serial numbers or the iPads apparently sent?

I am experiencing a very similar problem (https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/topic/443690-amazon-refusing-refund-claiming-serial-number-does-not-match-apparently/#comment-5144555 if interested) in which Amazon apparently conducted an investigation but refuse to provide any details or evidence. They are a broken record, and refuse to engage.

I think that in your case, given that you bought it on a debit card very recently, you might be able to use the charge back option if you contact your bank. Beware that apparently Amazon regularly close accounts if customers use charge backs…but at least you might get your money back!

Good luck…

Thanks for your response.

We returned exactly what was delivered to us from Amazon.

They will not provide any serial numbers or other evidence for the iPads that were “sent” to us, and as you’ve said, they simply refuse to engage with me. As you are aware they do not have any inbound email addresses to talk or correspond with anyone. The customer service ‘agents’ cannot pass details or any other information to a higher level.

I have received on many an automated email that just says ‘if you would like to challenge our decision” (refusal of refund) “please reply to this email to contact an account specialist”.....of course, the ‘account specialist’ probably doesn’t exist as there is no response there either.

Im really not bothered if they close my account, they really haven’t heard the last of me. Due to the money involved I’ll be heading for the small claims court with them.

Okay, the next step is to send them a letter of claim.

Draft the letter of claim and post it here so we can check it.

Keep it scant

Thank you so much.
I think I need to contact my bank first, (have just called and naturally the dept. I need to speak to work 8-1).

I will draft a letter over the weekend. Are there any guidelines or templates available to help with this?

Many thanks.

number should be on your debit card

simply ask for a chargeback.

items not as described. amazon are being obstructive, the dispute has been going on since xxx date and they wont listen to me.

dont go into 3rd part harmony with them

none of their business.

as for LOC templates simply type in hermes in our top search of the red toolbar and you see the format + examples

just adapt to your situation

I’m not really sure

. I submitted all the forms and copies of conversations to the bank for the chargeback, they said they’d keep in touch via email

. I haven’t heard anything from them whatsoever, but I have a deposit this morning, not from my bank, but direct from Amazon.

It also quotes my first original return number that they gave me on first contact.

Whether it was pressure from my bank or a u-turn from my appeal, I really don’t know.
