Hello,

I'm trying to end my membership with David Lloyd and their terms and conditions state:

At any time you can end your membership if:

• you are suffering from a medical condition which means you are unable to use your club’s sports facilities (this does not include pregnancy, but does include a medical condition that arises during pregnancy);

you lose your employment or are declared insolvent

I have sent them a p45 as proof of loss of employment but they say this is not something they accept as proof.

Does anyone know what my rights are as surely that's ridiculous.

god stop pandering too them.

simply write a letter TELLING them you ARE going to cancel from the date of your letter.

offer them ONE membership payment in lieu of the required industry std of ONE months notice.

give them 14 days to reply

if they dont then just ignore everyone....and CANCEL your DD to them NOW.

gyms don't do court

gyms debts don't appear on credit files.

a DCA is NOT a BAILIFF

and have

ZERO legal powers on ANY debt - no matter WHAT it's type.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Hi Tomo and welcome to CAG

Have a look at our guide here https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/topic/383678-cancelling-your-gym-agreement-get-it-right/

DL have no right to demand any documents from you, nor do they have the right to deny your cancellation.

As DX says, write a letter to them confirming you are cancelling due to redundancy, and that you will cancel the DD mandate once they have taken one final DD after you originally gave notice to quit.

If you have already paid that 1 final fee after giving them notice, cancel the DD mandate now, via your bank.

We could do with some help from you
