You are wrong to say this.

There are many threads here about this same issue and, of the threads where people come back and tell us what happened, they all get their money back.

But there's no point in guessing - wait until you have some news about your money, or getting benefits paid into the Monzo account.

We could do with some help from you

I agree that this sounds like an AML-alert has been triggered

I agree that waiting for it to settle is the way forward.

I agree that using the alternative Monzo account is wise.

I disagree with the advice to open another account now. If money laundering is suspected that is one of the worst things you can do.

use the monzo account. Wait for this episode to settle. THEN open another account, and then close the Barclays account.

They have not taken anything

they have not stolen anything

they have not closed the account

all they have done is prevented you accessing it for a few weeks whilst carrying out a few checks.

you will  get every penny available once they are haopy

You will get it back but it can take weeks -

always better to spread your money between different banks just in case they freeze one account at least you have another one to use

From my experience - Barclays froze my account for 90 days and then closed it

I had to show where the money was from before they released it.

Santander - just closed it and sent me a cheque with my money

RBS - froze the account and transferred my money to a new account after about 14 days

if they put you in the CIFAS register you won’t be able to get a new account so get a new account now while you can. They may close it as well so also try for a bank that isn’t a bank like transfer wise or currency fair. Anywhere that will allow you to accept and make payments

good luck

You had a  different situation

i have been saving this money and take it in cash from cash machines and my gf did the same

then when we reach up to £8000 i just put in in my barclays account

Yes, we know that you've been saving the money but Barclays don't and that's your problem at the moment.

If you read up about the money laundering rules, they're told to look out for large amounts of cash going into accounts because it could be the proceeds of crime. You know that you're honest but Barclays don't.

Hi Bdh and thanks for the update.

Great to hear you have your money back - that is quicker than many other cases.

Are the bank happy to let you continue to use the account or are they going to close it ?

if you pull the same stunt again ...but yes they probably would.
