I received a call and email today stating that my startup is using a pirated Solidworks. and they have asked me to confirm it in 2 days as well as they have given me Mac address of the user.

Can you please guide with what step should be taken ? as i am afraid that if they ask for hefty fine, i wont be able to pay it and would go bankrupt.

Hello, welcome to CAG.

We've seen a lot of people post about Solidworks and I don't remember anyone being taken to court by them.

Please do a search of CAG for other topics on these people and you'll see how to deal with it.

CAG is where you're posting, the Consumer Action Group.

If you scroll up to the top of this page, there is a red strip and on the right hand side is a white search box. Type in Solidworks and you should find other threads about them.

Did you buy it from a Solidworks retailer. They should be able to solve any questions for you

you ignore them.

they have no idea you are ever getting emails.

and you dont need a lawyer either

stop panicking about spam emails ...ignore

legal process does not mean court just more scary emails....and ofcourse northants bulk court cant  issue a court claim via email! and must also abide by the pre action protocol.

If i may add - For your own peace of mind I strongly suggest blocking all their phone numbers and their emails.
They are fishing, trying to get you to admit that you indeed used the software. If you never respond, they will have no proof, as all they really have is your email address. (how they find your email address is explained in one of the other topics on here)
