A friend owns a car that has been garaged off road for 7 years. It was SORN by an ex partner but he neglected to re-SORN when ownership transferred to him. Is there any way to escape

a. The fine

b. Paying 7 years of back tax

where have you got the idea there is any fine to pay nor back tax? DVLA only have a 6mts window for any tax year.

do they have the V5C in their name or is it still in the ex's name but the address is obviously still correct?

Everything that I have read quotes an £80 fine for not declaring a vehicle SORN'd.

The vehicle is in their name so the SORN expired on transfer from the ex

but the dvla only have 6mts to do so and very rarely do. so forget all the other years,

simply pop up on the DVLA website and sorn it

they wont hear anything about a 'fine' which is only a SUMMARY OFFENCE anyway

just get it sorn
