difficulty claiming tax refund

Recommended Posts

Some one I know has received a letter from HMRC saying he's due a tax refund, however

He needs to get copies of payslips from his employer at the time and now doesn't have access to the online file system that they use

They are a Franchisee of a large american fast food restaurant and I've rung the restaurant he worked for and they reckon that the holding company of the franchisee wouldn't be able to help

Any ideas if serving a SAR (Subject Access Request) on the restaurant making them take action would be helpful?

Thanks in advance for your opinions

Hi MM,

It's better if the person concerned starts their own post rather than you act as a go-between but anyway .......

1. What tax year do HMRC think he's due a refund.

2. Has he left the rest't and, if so, the date of leaving.

If he left DURING the tax year concerned, he should have received a P45 and HMRC would have a copy of this.

If he was still employed at the end of the relevant tax year (on 5th April) he should have received a P60 which, again, HMRC should have a copy of.

Please tell YF to keep payslips from now on in case they're needed, like they are now.

We could do with some help from you
