I have just sent a letter to the Halifax Building society to advise them that i am requesting £1050.00 back from them for charges that have occurred for the last 6 years. They have now 14 days to reply. Have i posted this to the right address: Halifax customer relations in Leeds.

It seems that if you've had an account that's been incurring charges for more than six years but you've only just found out that these charges are unlawful then you can reclaim for the entire period you've had the account.

 

Also, if these charges go back for six years or more you should seriously think about claiming contractual interest. Have you looked at this thread Why is no one claiming the contractual rate of interest??? which explains why, if you have large charges over a number of years it really makes sense to reclaim the interest. There's a spreadsheet in the bank templates library that does the calculation for you - make sure you get the right one. And you'll need to know what the bank has been charging you in interest - may say on the statements or you may have to contact the bank.
