Just looking at the current views on the ins and outs of an October election and saw this

I can't remember the last time politics was this frenetic. Half a dozen other cabinet ministers have said they're staying.

Can't trust a word any of the cabinet or the Johnsonite spads/Senior civil servants say.

So far all the nonentities have pledged to stay. About half a dozen haven't pronounced yet, Gove is one.

 

Ladbrokes have suspended betting on how long Johnson lasts and it's 7-1 there's an election this year.

I'm certain Johnson will try to call a general election when all else has failed, there will be massive efforts by the Tory party to prevent that.

Would be surprised if Boris is not gone by the end of this week. 

 

There may be other resignations in the pipeline from ministers and Tory backbenchers are probably now looking at who will replace Boris.

has just gone into No10. The expectation is that he will be appointed Chancellor. Presumably, on the basis of what@Jacob_Rees_Mogg just said, the deal is he has to go against Treasury advice and reverse the rise in corporation tax

They were onto this very quickly, weren't they? I could be wrong but I don't remember replacements for important positions being announced this fast.

Interesting point:

There are statements about the 1922 committee 'elections in a few weeks 'allowing' a change to the rules to allow a second no confidence, with Bridgen saying he will force it.

.. not clear on this, but didn't the the 1922 committee threaten a change of rules against May to force her out after having a vote the results of which wasn't released and wouldn't be if she resigned (not that Johnson would)?

 

.. so why wait? Too many Johnson loyalists?

Quite a few PPSs are resigning. Is this so they can vote in a 1922 committee vote next week?

 

But I suppose if they're replaced by people like my 2019 intake MP who seems desperate to keep in with No10, then that neutralises things. I don't think it's right for the government payroll to outnumber backbenchers, it certainly skews any 1922 vote.

I don't suppose the greased piglet cares, as long as he can stay in Downing Street. Sterling slid yesterday and it's thought it's unlikely to recover until he's gone.

 

Even though hardly anyone at home or abroad trusts him he's determined to cling on. His reputation when he eventually goes is going to be terrible.

It looks as if you could be right, UB. There seem to be eight or 10 cabinet ministers, I've lost track, waiting for him at No10 to tell Johnson to go.

 

This is what Peston thinks on Twitter.

 

Many in the cabinet has come to the view that the government “is not working” under Johnson. Several are now telling me they will tell him to go, in a few moments, they do not expect him to quit, so want a “process” to get him out. This is a full scale crisis

 

And the 1922 committee has decided not to change the rules but is having elections next week.
