Lets never forget that Brexit was sold on 2/3 main points 1 positive, 1 negative ...

+ maybe one other which could be either depending on the approach but was tied to the negative point

The positive point in reality always clashed completely with the other 2.

1. Positive - extra money for the NHS/social care (which is massively populated by immigrant workers)

Apart from Covid, where huge sums were routed to Not-the-NHS for crap PPE etc, the real NHS has continued to be defunded and run into the ground with nothing but rank lies claiming dozens more hospitals built/being built

2. Negative - Hate immigrants/foreigners

- which continues unabated with Patel being the front monster  ... despite those 'foreigners' picking the crops and caring for our sick and elderly and working in our hospitality

3. Sovereignty and the UK as a world leader - and quite specifically NOT a low tax, low regulation Singapore-on-Thames

- Sovereignty and world power - Truss and Frost - please give us a deal - any crappy deal - and protect our borders for us while Tax free ports are created, taxes increaes to pay the PPEPals and human and environmental rights are trashed with sewage poured
 into our waterways

and regarding Frost - the lie defined by his own words:

"David Frost, the Brexit minister, said in a speech yesterday that the whole point of leaving the EU was for Britain to do things differently. That was why, he said, he negotiated what is often called a “hard” Brexit, because he and Boris Johnson wanted to give Britain the maximum freedom to diverge from EU rules. He argued that Britain will only make a success of Brexit if it goes for a low-tax economy that focuses on deregulation and innovation.

There is just one problem with this vision of a chaotic, creative free-trade entrepot off the coast of the ossified European empire: it is not what most Leavers voted for. Talking about the motives of the 17m people who voted to Leave involves some sweeping generalisations, but to generalise sweepingly, most of them were voting for more spending on the NHS and a continental-style welfare state."

Very specifically NOT what the Leave voters were told or voted foe (who in fact voted based on being told specifically it wouldn't happen

The Brexit minister wants Britain to be a low-tax offshore trading centre, but Leave voters want EU levels of high public spending, writes John Rentoul

Macron is asking the UK to fulfill its legal commitments on fishing and the NIP, for instance. It looks as if the new regime in Germany agree with him, too.

In terms of standing up to the hard right, I don't think Macron's actions are much different to Johnson's and I agree, Zemmour would be a problem if he became a candidate and got into power.

The EU is only likely to become involved if a country starts breaching human rights or the rule of law, surely?

so @theoldrouge (what a fabulous name for someone supporting the Brexit farce)

Tell us how the UK will benefit from that appallingly bad Australia deal Truss  and Johnson (the corrupt incompetent liar) surrendered to?

(well apart from allowing a small amount of UK investment by a small handful of VIPals in Australian coal and strip mining at the cost of the loss of IMMENSE UK/EU cross investment)

While we wait ...

A view into the Tory perspective from the Independent View from Westminster newsletter

Tory party falls out with the PM

It’s the day cabinet ministers dread: the publication of the monthly Conservative Home poll of party members.

Liz Truss and David Frost top the net satisfaction league table again, but there have been some dramatic swings to “dissatisfied” since last month. Mark Spencer, the chief whip, has suffered the worst, acting as a scapegoat for the disastrous attempt to bail out Owen Paterson, with a 29 per cent swing to minus 21.

Boris Johnson himself is the next big casualty, an 18 per cent swing to minus 17; followed by Priti Patel, a 13 per cent swing to a “net zero” satisfaction rating, thanks no doubt to Channel crossings; and Jacob Rees-Mogg, also implicated in the Paterson error, who suffered a 10 per cent swing to a reduced rating of plus 34.

Rishi Sunak, on the other hand, seems to be recovering slightly from making the Conservatives the party of high taxes, with a bounce back from a plus 45 rating to plus 53.

The Con Home poll is not a representative sample, but it is restricted to party members and has a good track record of predicting leadership election votes. The August poll was also a good predictor of who was going to be sacked in the September cabinet reshuffle, but now the prime minister himself is second from bottom he would have to sack himself.

So the CONhome Tories think Truss and Frost,  lead negotiators of the UK's EU task farce and the Australia gets the benefits trade deal are the Trouts scallops

Easily pleased is all I can say. (Not that theres much to chose from)

From Alex Taylor quoting from le Canard Enchaine in France today.

So Macron (allegedly 😀) calls Johnson a clown and a "gougnafier" ("knucklehead"🤡) Most interesting revelation in today's Canard Enchaîné is however ... "In private, he tells me he's sorry he acts like he does, conceding he has first and foremost to accommodate public opinion"

Apologies for the size of the emoticons, I can't make them any smaller.

The way Johnson behaves is not really appropriate for anyone holding any senior position. He acted in the same way when he was London Mayor.  Plays political games all of the time and he is not really bothered with whether policies actually help the people he says he wants to serve.

Political games are silly but have had the effect of undermining trust in Europe when our ministers say one thing in private and the polar opposite in public, I'm reading. They think that Johnson doesn't abide by binding agreements he signed months previously and can't be trusted.

France is the most vocal but they aren't out of step with the view in Europe. Their ministers sound fed up with having meetings when people like Patel and others are polite at the time and then insult them in the media afterwards. They rightly point out that they aren't subservient to the UK or a vassal.

As worrying, I think, is the normalisation of lying and lying to Parliament without correcting it.

was just looking at that HB.

Wonder who will foot the bill? Taxpayers or the Tory party?

On a side note

Johnson feeds populist pals £millions and £millions for duff PPE,

including £millions to individual populist pal middlemen to order duff stuff made in China via alibaba or suchlike

Scotland shows how a real government does it:

“We’ve also established a domestic supply chain for PPE, with 88% of supplies coming from Scottish companies, which not only provides Scotland with more resilience but also an added economic benefit.”

"Richard Leonard convener of the committee, said he and other MSPs had “looked at awe at the growth from zero to 88% in the percentage of domestic supply”.

"Gordon Beattie, director of national procurement at NSS, said transparent face masks made in Scotland are being considered for use in England and had won export orders from Europe."

Holyrood’s Public Audit Committee heard items are also now being exported to Europe.

I see the Tories held their safe seat on Old Bexley and Sidcup ... but with a very encouraging 10% swing to Labour and a massive 75% fall in their majority after losing one of the remaining 'real' Tories to the blight of cancer.

The upcoming North Shropshire by-election after the resignation of corrupt self serving (allegedly) Paterson is the definition of a Tory safe seat. Peterson might even have snuck a re-win in if Johnson hadn't thought another tory candidate removes the risk.

Be interesting to see the result though.

and regarding Paterson, Is it true his 'relationship' aka paid lobbying from Randox has 'ended'? (Fired as now useless?)

.. as Randox has now been pulled up for LOOOOONG not meeting UK consumer and legal requirements

.. which Randox are now addressing (well some of the blatant consumer rights abuses if not the other crap) now they dont have a Paid Populist MP protecting them.

As it also becomes clear Johnson and pals were throwing Christmas parties (no doubt paid for by Randox and suchlike) while we were all told we couldn't even talk to our grandparents over a fence ..
