I've had an accident at work on private land in a works vehicle and claimed for it under the works fleet policy in the last 12 months. When asked who was driving it did say me on the claim. Do I have to declare it under my personal insurance? Will it show up on my record?

I would say that you do have to declare it to your insurer. You are required to disclose any information to your insurer which might materially affect their decision to take on the risk or else to impose conditions or charge more money.

If you did not disclose this incident and you had an accident and your insurer discovered you had omitted to tell them, then it could be grounds for declining liability

Thanks. I do know you didn't used to have to but this was 10 years ago that you didn't.

I'm not sure who told you that 10 years ago you didn't have to report these incidents – I'm sure you did. I'm sure you always did.

In fact I think it was stricter then than it is now.

There are different questions Insurers ask, one about claims and the other about accidents. You just need to be careful as Bankfodder advises to disclose anything which may affect whether Insurers can offer you cover. If you failed to disclose and the Insurers found out later, you may not be Insured properly.

Remember that online quote system are simplistic and that if you phone Insurers/brokers with information, they have more scope in regard to what information is used to calculate the quote and/or agree cover.

We could do with some help from you.
