I recently moved to a new address and took plusnet with me.

I decided to go from £18 monthly ordinary speed to this at my new bungalow.

I cant see anything superfast about it and I still get a prolonged whirley blue thing as my laptop waiting for the internet.

I wanted to get youtube on my television.

It worked for three days only.

Been trying to get them on the phone to no avail.

All I get is Covid information and enough time to eat a three course meal in, but no customer services answer.

Is this typical of Plusnet now?

DX is right - I get 108Mbps from Virgin Fibre but nothing like this speed over WiFi to my laptop, unless I use Ethernet cable.

Better hardware will probably give you better speeds over WiFi.

Are you using Wifi or Ethernet cable to your laptop and/or TV.

Let us know what speed you ARE getting and what you SHOULD be getting, as asked above.

However bad Plusnet are to contact, rest assured they are probably wonderful compared to Virgin for Customer Services. But all CS are going to be harder to contact now we're back into a harder lockdown scenario again.

We could do with some help from you

  • 1 month later...

I had some shelves fitted to my new accommodation for the house router. By magic, without thinking about it I tried the you tube channel.  It now works fine. Apparently it should be four feet from the floor.  Mine, in my new home, was still on the carpet.  This is worth noting for future reference. Plusnet did not put that command in their instructions. It's a serious omission

.

the ground (why its called ground..earth.. ) always absorbs radio signals and restricts any radio signals from radiating from any aerial properly. liker wise on received too.

just try laying your TV aerial on the floor zilch nada...

if you'd said you had this sitting on the floor in post 1 the 1st advice would have been get it up off the floor....

I didn't think this would be an issue or I would have mentioned it in post 1. Plus net should state this fact in their instruction manual though.

urm ...its the same for any receiver or transmitter....

why do you think TV masts are 100's of feet in the air.......

why do you see tv aerials on roofs???

99'9% of radio waves are line of sight.

7. Don't place it on the floor

Placing a router on the floor can dampen its performance, as the device is sending out signals that are immediately absorbed by the ground. Try elevating your router and placing it on a sideboard or shelf to achieve more comprehensive coverage.

Addendum. I didn't have it on the floor as previously reported by myself. It was on top of a waist high set of drawers. Functioning well enough for laptops etc. I didn't realize raising it 16 inches could have such a profound effect.  Im not very techno minded..  My thanks for that link. I have been made aware of other things now that may come in handy for future reference.
