Hi all, I'm a newbie to the site with a burning question or 2!

I no longer have any of my statements from earlier than 3 years ago. I bank with Abbey. I am convinced I had some hefty charges on my account as a student within the 6 year window. I wrote a letter using a template from another site asking for them to look into this and about my belief that I was unfairly charged but the bank wrote back saying they can see no unfair charges on my account.

I then sent another letter asking for all the charges made to my account for the past 6 years and sent my £10.

They wrote to me recently to say that they will collate info from the past 3 years and I should receive this within 7 days but any earlier info is no longer available for computer print out as it 'has been transported into a programme called microfische and will take a length of time. They will send details of transactions on the account when this information is available'.

What I want to ask is what is microfische? If they can't access the information then how do they know I haven't been unfairly charged? Is what they are telling me correct?

Can anyone help me?!

Welcome to the forums.

This issue of Microfische data is one that has been problematic for claimants with Abbey and Barclaycard for some time.

The issue relates to them believing that a Microfische does not fall within filing systems as laid down in the data protection act.A microfich film is able to store up to 40 pages of data so it is certainly a good way of saving space and also being able to access the info on it quite quickly.Recently there have been investigations against both Abbey and Barclaycard as to their objections that their systems do not require them to supply the bank statements filed by these methods. However the information Commisionaire has ruled that they DO fall within these laws.

Yu should now send another letter making it clear you are aware of recent rulings. You may have to wait a little longer but they are obliged to let you have them.

You should read some threads in the Abbey bank section in addition to starting a thread there yourself and reading as much as you can to prepare you for the next stage.
