Has anyone had problems with working tax credits? I claimed tax credits back in June and they stoped paying me in July saying I had not returned a form to them (which I never got), after me chasing them they sent the form back out, I filled it out and sent it back but my credits did not restart. I am the only one working in our household as my partner is having trouble finding employment and under severe stress and strain now I have Inland Revenue saying I owe them £605 as they class what I was paid an overpayment!!! I had to wait 4 months to be told why they stoped in the first place and now im still waiting after a month on my new credit claim form.:-(

Boxerlady, I know the feeling!!! I too am on a low income but satisfy all of the criteria to be entitled to this BINGO pay out system. I first applied to working tax credits a year ago. By the time I heard from them and they had awarded me £45 a week, I had changed jobs and was no longer eligible for it. Feeling spurred on by the fact that I could be entitled to £45 a week, I strived to get a job with 30 hours a week. At the end of August I finally achieved this status again. I got in touch and filled out the forms. I sent them off and phoned them 2 weeks later to see if all was going well. 'Everything is going through without a problem' they assured me.

4 weeks ago and no word from them, I phoned them up. They told me that my claim had been withdrawn and that I had to reapply to get a 'cash award'. Begrudgingly, I filled out the said paperwork again. Earlier this week on Monday I phoned them, they told me that my applicatoin had been processed and that it wsa just awaiting a cash award. Whoopee said me!!!

On Wednesday I phoned them up to see if there had been any progress. They told me that there was no sign of my latest application on the system and that I should reapply. AGAIN???

I have sent for the relevant forms to fill out once again alongside a complaints form. I am going to take this all the way as I am entitled to that money.

DON'T let them grind you down. The whole set up is losing the government millions of pounds and they are trying to recoup it by using clandestine tactics. I feel confident that if I play this little game to the end, then I will eventually get something out of it. Keep up with it and phone them twice a week every week until you get what's yours.

Keep smiling and good luck.

Jim.

There are a lot of problems with the Tax Crdits system, I am currently fighting a them on behalf of my mum. There are various threads about Tax Credits in the General Consumer Issues forum located here: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/general-consumer-issues/

If you have a browse through some of those threads you may find some useful info but you could always try your local MP as well - my mum's has been very helpful with her case.

Good luck with it all and please keep us updated on the situation.

Regards, OD

I think thats a really good idea because Im sure there are alot of cases regarding the unfair Tax Credit System. Ive been to my local MP and he has written to a "senior member of staff" about my case. Also I am going to my local newspaper aswell. The reporter said he will do an artical on this. Its just a waiting game now. Will update when we have news.
