I was in Dubai with my children and husband. Whilst there husband persuaded me to take out a car loan on his behalf. 12 months later we separated and I returned to the uk in 2006. We divorced.

Over  the years I have received letters from various uk collection agencies in regard to the £9000 outstanding loan (which they are now claiming £40k for) but ignored them all with no further action.

However over that last couple of months I’ve received several letters from International Debt Recovery which have been forwarded to me by a friend at my old address. I also changed my name by deed poll several years ago, so these letters have an old name and an old address on them.  I have no assets, am on disability benefit due to serious health problems and will never work again.

I don’t want them to keep chasing but I’m scared of contacting them and giving them an opportunity to continue harassing me. I also don’t want them to turn up at the address they are sending the letters to.
Do you suggest I carry on ignoring them or is it worth contacting them with my financial information and hope they realise it is pointless chasing me ?

They are not BAILIFFS

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

debt is most probably statute barred.

they probably want money for their xmas staff party.

even if you make contact they'll still keep chasing ...sooo...

Thank you for your quick response, is there an actual, cut off date for enforcing uae debt ?

It’s been approximately 13/14 years

I’ve assumed they are chasing on the off chance of scaring me into making contact and admitting the debt.

I am quite stressed to still be getting letters but as I said in reality I have nothing and no income

even if they tried going to court I’m not sure what I could be expected to pay.

In your opinion, shall I just keep filing them in the bin ?

Or maybe catch the postman and say no one of this name lives here, please return to sender (there is no address on the outside of the envelope) ?

i believe UAE Loan SB is 15yrs

i'd certainly not reply no.

there is no harm in scanning things to pdf and keeping a copy

it's sometimes worthy to keep stuff as they often trip themselves up by differing claims of this and that
