I'm trying a new thread. My post has a high and the low as it happens, but your posts don't have to. I just thought it might be nice to have a sport discussion for people who are interested.

So Lewis Hamilton won Imola at the weekend and could well be world champion for a seventh time, equalling Ayrton Senna. And Mercedes secured the constructors' championship.

The sad news is that Sir Bobby Charlton has been diagnosed with dementia and I wish him and his family well.

Resurrecting this thread. It was a good day for Britis in sport yesterday.

England are in the quarter finals of Euro 2020.

Mark Cavendish won his first Tour de France stage in five years.

Dan Evans is through to the next round at Wimbledon.

There's an amazing video of the last 30 seconds of Mark Cavendish's race.

I used to be a football fan going to matches, watching live games on TV and keeping up to date with all the latest stats.

I lost interest about 20 years ago when Premier League teams started to play 'foreign football', with slower build up play and theatrical dives after the slightest touch they received, hoping to get a free kick or penalty.

I am watching some of the Euro matches and hope England win, but I would be surprised If I started to watch football on a regular basis again.

Indeed and I'm not sure how England reaching the quarter finals was a good day for the 'Britis' either. I doubt Wales and Scotland see it that way.

Gary Lineker's advice to England fans, from Twitter.

'If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for the final, please, please don’t boo the Italian anthem. A/ It’s an absolute belter and worth listening to. B/ It’s bloody rude, disrespectful and utterly classless.'

Mark Cavendish won again today as the Tour de France arrived in Carcassonne, despite having a puncture. The teamwork was brilliant throughout and he's now equalled Eddy Merckx' record for stage wins.

The IoM must be very proud.

Yeah - but that one looked a bit difficult...

So... one more to beat Mercx's stage wins record.  Eight stages to go and a win on the Champs d'Elysee?  If he can get through the Pyrenees...

Last night was a high and a low. Yes the night was amazing but Italy played dirty and they should not have had a player on the pitch after his behaviour.

I don't think you're alone in thinking that about Italy, TGM. But I think the young England team and Gareth Southgate behaved superbly throughout the competition despite nasty comments on social media.

I don't think I could have handled things this well at their age.

I dont think l would have either. At 19years old l was not no way able to do that. let alone at 21 or 23. Hell My little boy is 18 in a few weeks and l could never imagine him doing that. Can we image playing professional football the Saturday then Monday being in college studying and doing our A levels while preparing for this and in the middle of a pandemic. I know at 19 l was working 2 jobs and looking after a neighbours girls while at college and that was bad enough.

Italy have played dirty all threw the tournament and nothing done. IMO they should not have been in the final due to there players behaviour.

Anyway as l said to my partner. this is only a practise run. We cant cure the hurt of something we have never won.

Well - this afternoon at the Olympics I saw what must be one of the most surprising and astonishing feats by a British sportswoman that I've ever seen.

Emily Campbell won a weightlifting silver medal in the Women's +87kg category.  She is the first British woman ever to do so.  And the last British male to win a weightlifting medal was David Mercer and that was in 1984 (37 years ago) at the LA games.

It may not mean much to people who don't know a lot about weightlifting, but it's an almost unbelievable feat.  Unlike GB rowing (which gets about £20+ million funding per annum with virtually nothing to show for it this time round) and GB cycling, I don't think GB weightlifting gets any central funding.

She's 27 years old and only started lifting 5 years ago.

WELL DONE EMILY CAMPBELL!
