i hope to update this post regularly from the start till the end & hopefully end up with my money back. If anyone would like to comment or advise throughout the next few months it would by greatly appreciated! hopefully i may be of assistance for others hopeing to do the same,

Estimate of chrges & interest over 4 years £1500 - Till i get statements through.

The Colbinator.

1 - Thur 23th Nov 2006. :)

Rang up the halifax & asked very nicely for them to send out my statements since ive opened the account approx 4 years ago. i was told

there would be a £5 charge & it would take 10 days.

2 - Fri 24th Nov 2006. :)

Rang up Again Today - just to confirm everything was ok & the statements were on there way - they say "yes with you in 10 days Sir",

i am now starting to get very exited as £1500 would be very very nice.

3 - Fri 1st Dec 2006 :-x

Rang Halifax to check that the statements were on the way, only to be told that they had not been ordered - as i had not agreed to the charge for £5 for the statements!!!! NOT HAPPY - the lady apologised & has wavied the £5 fee, but now its going to take another 10 days.

Well, at least you've saved a fiver already. It's not unusual for one department to not follow what another department requests of them. That's why it's usually better to send in the SAR, then you have legal backing if they don't comply within 40 days. They could keep 'forgetting' and giving a further 10 days until the cows come home.

Be careful - rushing at this could land you in trouble...

If you read the http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/faqs-please-read-these/31460-step-step-instructions.html it does advise that you send in the SAR and allow 40 days for them to comply. This is to ensure that YOU are legally sound as you progess your claim. Because you've called and pestered them for the last week, you will not have had the letter regading 'manual intervention', and that could be important later.

The moderators and helpers here have created the site and provided the instructions to help us all, so we don't do anything wrong, or miss something important.

I would recommend reading a lot more on here before charging forward, in the hope you'll get paid out in the next week - it simply does not happen like that. Follow procedure and you'll be sure of getting the charges refunded, otherwise you risk having to start all over again if they later refuse to pay up.

Much as I would have liked to have got my money back for Christmas, I've had to wait for the Halifax to comply with official requests along the way, and I started my claim in mid October. If you try to leap ahead then I've a feeling the Halifax will find some way to upset you.
